This is a concept for a D&D (or similar RPG) character. An NPC, or creature, or whichever.
Shorocrogh is nothing less than a curious spirit, gleefully exploring the material realm of the universe. After centuries of observation, he has finally grasped the intricacies of physics and mechanical movement (quite the accomplishment for a noncorporeal spectre!). He has two accessories: a comfortable mask of cogs and springs that functions as his 'main' body, and a wooden puppet he controls through an energetic connection. This way, should the puppet ever get stuck or trapped, he can still escape with his mask (his main connection to the material realm).
He's quite shy and jumpy, preferring to stay in the background to observe the world around him; anyone who chooses to approach him openly and slowly, in clear sight, would probably get a friendly response from him.
Should he be attacked, he'll attempt to defend himself with whichever poisonous substance he's got with himself at the moment. Catch him at an especially bad time, and he'll even have a rudimentary bow-like contraption with poisoned arrows. Destroying the puppet would disable him until he's able to build a new one; destroying his mask however, breaks his bond with the material realm, disabling him for many decades to come. Indeed, not every spirit can just possess any object that easily.
Why would you attack him, though? You monster :V
Happy halloween, everyfellow!
