She does have one, yes! I thiiiink it's generally a more European thing to tattoo the ear, which is where she is from, same with my last GSD (who also had a tattoo, but we microchipped her after we got her, versus Rita here came with one)
I think microchips are more common in the US, rather than tattooing. So better safe than sorry. xD

I admittedly don't know real reasoning. I could give my further thoughts/info over notes since it'll be a tad lengthy for a comment. xD But I know one reason for some folks is that is because the European lines have healthier hips/elbows, as the breed can be very well known for hip dysplasia and sloped backs.
But she was already in the US when we adopted her, she just happened to be the right fit for us!
