It had started as a simple plan. Vanessa and Cody had come together as cousins to create it. Their goal had been to get Teddy out of his room and get him out of his sulk… something they’d been trying to do since that ill-fated match against Team Pre-K and his fight against Petie. Of course, since Teddy wasn’t actually TALKING to them (or almost anybody for that matter) it had proved incredibly difficult… especially for Cody since his own guilt had kept him from talking to the litleo. Luckily the arrival of their distant cousin Violet had proved a good ice breaker to make the lion cub open up again… even if only a little. The little cyndaquil was so sweet and shy it was a mystery why or how she ever enrolled in the PCA… but other than Arya she was the only one Teddy would interact with in any meaningful way. Maybe because she was so sweet and timid, but for whatever reason he would listen to her and that’d formed the cornerstone of Cody and Vanessa’s plan.
First they’d had to scrape together some Halloween costumes since their families weren’t rich… luckily Vanessa knew a thing or two about sewing and making accessories due to being in the contest major and Cody’s daddy turned out to be really good with his paws. Since Arya fit in Vanessa’s old Halloween costume from kindergarten (the vulpix had found and dug it out of storage) and Daddy had helped to make a costume for Cody all they needed was to find one of Teddy’s old pyroar footed jammies, modify some old clothes to make a costume for Violet, and pull out the old dress Vanessa swore she’d modified and reworked and wasn’t just a childish ball gown she’d happened to have in her closet. By the end of it they all had their trick-or-treat costumes. Arya would be Dorothy, Cody would be the Tinman, Violet would be the Scarecrow, Teddy would be the Cowardly Lion, and Vanessa would be Glinda the Good Witch and they all would be off to see the wizard (a joke all of their respective parents made at least once before this was all over).
Of course since Teddy wasn’t interested in cooperating they’d had to put it together without his input and spring it on him a few days before Halloween… with some extra incentive for going along. Namely having Arya and Violet there to make sad, sad eyes at the idea of him not going trick-or-treating with them. It was a dirty trick but it worked and Teddy had agreed so that was the important thing… though it was painfully obvious he was still depressed. Especially since he didn’t even bother to argue at the idea of having to wear a diaper under his costume… which was the reason he’d given up on the pair of jammies they used for his costume in the first place. The litleo couldn’t get them off easily enough to go to the bathroom so he ditched them rather than wear diapers under them. So it was distressing to see him just give into the idea without even a little fuss… but at least the baggy jammies hid the padding well. And it wasn’t like he was the only one sporting baby undies in the group. All of them save for Vanessa were padded… though Cody was still unsure why Violet was diapered like he was. He couldn’t understand her squeaked and stuttered explanation past it involving an accident with Stun Spore…
Either way the trick-or-treat group set out into the brisk Halloween night… well… afternoon technically. Despite most of the members being older than they looked Arya was only 5 and mommy was only willing to put off her bed time for so long, so they had to start early. That aside it seemed to be going really well and the parents and people handing out candy seemed to like their costumes… thought comments like “Aren’t you a little young to be in charge of these little ones dear? You’re only… what, 10, 11 maybe?” or “Hey there fussy britches, why are you hiding back there~? Did starting 1st grade make you too big to tick-or-treat with your friends~?” or “D’aaaaaaaw~ No need to hide sweetie~ Here, a little extra candy for the scaredy scarecrow~ How old is the little darling? Three? Three and a half?” started to get old really fast. And the “Follow the yellow brick road” and “Off to see the wizard” jokes wore out their welcome by the second house. Either way they were getting a lot more candy than normal it seemed, so aside from the embarrassing cooing and comment the group costume idea was working.
And despite Vanessa having to gently nudge Teddy up to stand with the rest of the group every time they went to a door the plan was going well… the litleo was out of his room and not quite as sulky as he’d been for the last week. Hopefully by the end of the night he’d be smiling like his old self… or at least joining in with the others as they said “Trick-or-Treat” They had a few more blocks to go before they had to start heading back… despite how cynical Cody usually was the growlith was willing to side with Vanessa on this one and hope for a miracle. After all, they were in familiar neighborhoods with parents walking similar (in appearance anyway if not age) groups of little kids all around. Short of some bully trying to take their candy or maybe needing to find a place to stop for a change (Violet had come close to needing a dry diaper thanks to the spookier yard decorations) Cody honestly couldn’t think of anything that could happen to mess this up. If they were lucky they might even see some of the puppy’s friends from the PCA… well, other than Petie of course since Teddy might relapse if they met up with the teddiursa. Almost anybody else would be fine though…
“Hiiiiiiii Cody~”
The chirpy, sing-song voice was immediately recognizable to the puppy… who shuddered before letting out a groan as Terri came into view. He’s specifically gone out of his way to tell the pumpkaboo, who was wearing a witch outfit (no surprise there) with a candy theme this year, NOT to meet up with him or bother him and his family tonight. Unfortunately telling Terri not to do something tended to get the same reaction as telling a spoiled preschooler… immediate disobedience. So here she was big as life (or maybe that was just her padded pumpkin butt) and bouncing right over to them. He saw Violet immediately move to hide behind Arya and his little sis back away a little, which made sense since they’d never met the ghost type before and Arya had been taught about “Stranger Danger” since dad was a cop and all. It took Cody a moment to realize Terri WASN’T looking at the girls… and by the time he’d realized who she was going for and gotten properly horrified it was too late to try and stop her from bounding right up to Teddy.
“So YOU’RE Cody’s baby cousin~ The naughty little one who threw a temper tantrum against Petie in the arena~” the pumpkaboo cooed, violating personal space like she always did and getting right up in the litleo’s face. Said face was sporting an aghast, shocked expression slowly turning to fury and sporting cheeks flushed pink with embarrassment. “Well hope time out taught you a lesson to play nice with others little mon~” Terri teased, apparently oblivious to the feelings Teddy was wordlessly expressing as she hugged him… then spun him around before he could try to struggle. Cody could only stare in slack jawed horror as Terri proceeded to pat, rub, and otherwise make obvious the diaper under Teddy’s costume. “What Cody DIDN’T tell me was that you were a diaper baby too~ But I guess it makes sense with how you acted, did diapee rash make you cranky~?” she asked with a giggle, ignoring the ashamed yowl from Teddy and the shocked gasp from Vanessa. Cody had long since learned how spoiled and selfish Terri could be in his “Friendship” with her as well as how little she cared about personal space (and her fondness for making diaper butts known), but this had to be her at her worst! He could hardly believe what he was seeing!
“Now wait just a minute” Vanessa started to say, the vulpix sounding angrier than he’d ever heard her as she stepped forward while Cody was still in shock… but Terri didn’t wait as she proceeded to cross a line. With a SMACK on Teddy’s padded bottom the pumpkaboo proceeded to coo out “Be good for your big cousin, okay cubby~ Let Cody know when you needa change~” in a teasing tone. The growlithe cringed, the comment reminding him of how he’d patronized Teddy and ended up setting that whole horrible match into motion… before going wide eyed at a trembling sound. One he’d heard it once or twice since that match. “No no no nononono” he babbled trying to rush forward… only to get roughly shoved to the side as Teddy bolted past him, sobbing openly as the noise had clued he was about to and barely looking where he was going. Plopping on his bottom hard Cody watched Vanessa call after the litleo in panic before gently grabbing Violet and Arya’s paws, the little girls looking confused and upset over what’d just happened, and rushing after her little cousin… or with how the vulpix viewed him her little brother. Leaving Cody alone with Terri as the growlithe could feel anger building and bubbling up inside him like a volcano… as a sickeningly innocent and confused comment from the pumpkaboo proved the perfect trigger for it to blow.
“D-did I say something wrong?”
"You... you spoiled, immature, stupid, fucking brat!" Cody exploded. Normally he never used cusswords but he was too angry to care as Terri stuttered out “Huh?” in surprise. Her expression of shock and confusion just pushing the angry puppy further. "What part of stay away did you not understand? Why can't you EVER act like a normal person and not get in everyone's business? WHY ARE YOU SO DAMN IMMATURE YOU'RE A TEEN!" he howled, venting the minor frustrations he had with the pumpkaboo which had now swelled up to full blown fury. "B-bu... I... w-was jus... p-playin... t-teasin a little..." Terri’s childish lisp seemed to be genuine this time, brought on by confusion and a mix of other emotions. Cody was beyond caring though as his tirade continued "You're old enough to know you can't just grab people's butts! You can't just come up to someone YOU DON'T KNOW AND TRY AND HARASS THEM LIKE THAT!" the growlithe was unaware if he’d lost it enough to be unintentionally spitting flame as he yelled… and he didn’t really care right now either.
"B-bu... w-we play like that..." the ghost type whimpered, head hanging and lip quivering… meaningless gestures to the furious puppy as Cody just snorted "And I'm sick of it. Grow up Terri." He said bluntly, ignoring the pumpkaboo reacting to his words like she’d been struck, before turning on his heels and storming off. “W-wait! W-where are you...?" Terri called as Cody could hear her start to follow him… only to be reduced to whimpering as the pupped snapped at her with “Shut up!” and resumed sticking his nose in the air. Anger honing his senses, particularly his already sharp sense of smell, as he followed Terri’s pumpkin smell back where she’d come from… till he saw who he was looking for. Somewhere in the back of his mind he could hear Terri’s gasp of shock and horror, but it was back with the sense of irony about what he was going to do after having just told Terri to “Grow Up” so Cody just ignored it. Marching right up to Terri’s big, gourgeist sister Jackie, Cody proceeded to tattle on the pumpkaboo in full.
By the time he was done Jackie’s normally grim expression had become genuinely spooky “Thank you for letting me know she acted like that Cody.” The gourgeist said, having taken Terri firmly by the hand and actively ignoring the pumpkaboo’s sobbing “I give you my word she’ll receive a much needed talking to and a proper punishment… and an even more needed spanking. Terri, we’re going home. You’re done trick-or-treating for tonight.” Her icy, furious tone was more than enough to confirm she’d do what she said… but Cody was still nearly blinded with anger even as he watched her turn and start to drag the sobbing brat that was Terri off. He was angrier than he’d ever been in a long, LONG time and could barely think straight to even consider trying to calm down. It still felt like he needed to go hit something or set something ablaze till her felt better… as he noticed Jackie had turned around and was calling back to him. Her words cutting through his burning fury like a knife of ice.
“Where is your cousin? If he’s nearby I’d like to make Terri apologize before we go.”
One question and the anger fizzled, being replaced with a sickening feeling in the puppy’s stomach… where WAS Teddy right now? If Jackie said anything else Cody didn’t hear her as he stuck his nose in the air and raced back along the path he’d taken. Panic and worry having replaced anger to sharpen his senses as he traced his steps back to where Terri had ruined Halloween for him and his cousins. Not caring who might be watching the growlithe dropped to all fours and placed his nose to the sidewalk, sniffing at it like a feral. Even with the trail being as fresh as it was trying to discern all the scents would have normally been impossible for the puppy… but luck was on his side as the distinctive mothball scent of Teddy’s costume (since it’d been in the back of an old closest for a few months minimum) Cody had noticed earlier soon had him racing along. Alternating toddling and running on all fours like a feral in an attempt not to lose the trail. He was picking up trace scent of the girls as well along the path… till it suddenly split at an intersection to Cody’s confusion. The girls trail went off towards the housing districts they’d come from… but Teddy’s went off into the distance.
It took the puppy a moment to realize what had happened. Teddy must have gotten too far ahead and Vanessa, Cody knew for a fact the vulpix’s nose wasn’t near as good as his, must have had to guess which way he’d gone… so she’d assumed he’d run back the way they’d already been and gone there. Pulling Violet and Arya along with her. Sniffing the ground and following Teddy’s trail instead of the girl’s Cody found it wobbling randomly as if his litleo cousin hadn’t been paying attention to where he’d been going… the resulting mental image of Teddy sobbing too hard to even see where he was running making Cody’s ears fold back as he picked up speed. His ears promptly snapped back up straight though as the clear October night carried the familiar sound of sobbing to them. Not bothering to keep his nose in the dirt the growlithe broke into a run, cutting through the park the trail had led him up to, trying to find the source of the noise.
And a moment later he found it. There was Teddy sitting half curled up on a park bench and sobbing his eyes out. There was two other mon with him but the growlithe was too focused on his baby cousin to pay them anymore thought than “Big zebstrika lady” and “kindergarten shinx girl” as he rushed up. He didn’t bother trying to talk to the litleo since he doubted Teddy would hear him over his sobbing and instead focused on making sure the lion cub was unhurt. Aside from having his head in his arms, the sleeves of his costume now wet with tears, as he sobbed and hiccupped Teddy seemed to be unharmed. Which was a load off Cody’s mind… enough of one to let him notice the small, daint blue paw gently rubbing his cousins back in an attempt to sooth him. And the equally small and dainty little shinx girl in an angel costume it was attached to. He’d brushed her off as a kindergartner earlier but thanks to all the tiny, kindergarten (or younger) looking friends he has Cody couldn’t help but idly wonder how old she was… alongside why she was comforting his cousin and being grateful for her attempt even if it didn’t seem to be doing anything.
“You’re Teddy’s cousin, right? From school?” the shinx asked in a chirpy little voice laced with concern and worry, answering Cody's question about her age. “Yeah, I am.” Cody said bluntly, usually he’d be curious who the girl was but at the moment his only concern was Teddy as he tried to help his sobbing and uncooperative cousin off the bench. “The poor dear just ran past us sobbing his eyes out.” a deep female voice made Cody look up. It was the zebstrika woman he’d brushed off as well. Big, curvy, and carrying a candy bucket that was probably the shinx’s he guessed she was the lioness’s mother. “My little angel ran after him and we ended up here, she says she knows him from school… is he alright? What happened?” the tone was concerned and worried, which Cody could appreciate, but also cooing and patronizing. The lady didn’t see them as anything but little kids and was speaking as the only “Adult” of the group. Usually this’d annoy and frustrate Cody but he’d used his anger up on Terri earlier. Right now all he cared about was getting her to let him walk Teddy back home…
“What happened? He was crying too hard to say anything… is he going to be okay? Can you help?” the worried, pleading whispers snapped Cody out of his thoughts. The shinx was whispering to him, apparently ignoring her mother’s cooing, as she tried to help Teddy off the bench. Between the two of them they barely managed to get Teddy to his feet and the litleo wobbled unsteadily, still crying. Cody didn’t know about the (admittedly dainty and frail) looking shinx but he knew Teddy outweighed him so trying to keep the lion cub on his feet was a chore. "He... we just need to get him home." Cody said after a moment of thought… even if he had no clue how to do that. Judging by the way she was talking there was no what the zebstrikawould let him walk his cousin home without a “Chaperone” and that’d just cause a scene that’d make things worse. The puppy was at a loss.
“There you two are!!!” the gasped voice made Cody look up in surprise to see Vanessa hurrying over to them. The vulpix traveling as fast as she could without risking tripping the little girls she was leading along by the paws. The growlithe could only let out a sigh of relief as Vanessa knelt down and pulled Teddy into her arms as the sobbing litleo latched onto her and cried into her shoulder. He’d forgotten how close those two were… which just made his ears droop a little as it also reminded him of how Teddy had been refusing to talk to the vulpix same as anyone else during his sulking. Either way Vanessa would be able to walk Teddy home easier than he could, after she finished trying to sooth and calm him, so that was a load off Cody’s shoulders. Meaning he could take over worrying about something else… namely chaperoning the two little girls of the group.
Gently pulling Arya and Violet over to his side Cody wrapped one arm around them each and hugged them close… as they wrapped their arms around the puppy in turn. With their little bodies pressed against him Cody could feel them trembling and whimpering. It could be due to fear or being confused and upset but the growlithe understood both reactions all too well as he nuzzled his houndour baby sister and his cyndaquil baby cousin. Trying to calm his own nerves alongside theirs. Glancing up for a moment he noticed the zebstrika lady hadn’t intruded on Vanessa and Teddy’s moment, which he was grateful for since Teddy’s sobbing had slowed to sniffling, and in a moment of confused curiosity looked to see why. “She’s Teddy’s big sister, she can walk him back home safely okay mommy?” the shinx’s squeaky voice explained, the electric type standing between her mom and the fire siblings keeping her from getting involved. Cody was grateful for this… but he was more focused on the fact that, standing up with her back to him like she was, he could clearly tell the shinx had a diaper on underneath her angel costume.
Of course by now Cody had given up on being surprised at finding teens in diapers (if the shinx really was a teen) and his mind was kind of preoccupied… so at best this got a “Huh, another one” reaction from the puppy before he resumed coddling Violet and Arya. Soft sniffling caught Cody’s attention… or specifically the soft sniffling in the place of sobbing caught the growlithe’s attention. Teddy had FINALLY stopped crying, mostly anyway, as he clumsily wiped his eyes with a paw. Standing back up Vanessa held his free paw and looked to Cody. The vulpix didn’t need to say a word for him to understand they were going to head back home now. Trick-or-treating was over for the night. “Come on girls, we’re going back home.” He said softly, patting Arya and Violet’s backs to get them to let go of him before taking their paws and starting to follow after Vanessa. With luck they’d get to Teddy’s house with enough time to go back to his and Arya’s apartment… Cody wasn’t sure if spending the night like they’d originally planned was such a good idea now-
“Wait!”
“Huh?” stopping and letting go of the girls Cody turned around to see the shinx girl standing behind him… and holding out a familiar orange bag full of candy. “Teddy dropped this when he ran past… dunno if he wants it now but it’s his… um… c-could you give it back to him later?” the little electric type timidly asked, holding the bag out to Cody. After staring for a moment the puppy the offered bag “Thanks… um…” he paused, finally realizing he didn’t actually know the girls name. “Katherine, I’m Katherine. It’s ni-” before she could continue though the zebstrika's shadow fell over them as the larger electric type leaned down “You can also call her Kathy… or Kitten if you’d like~” she coo patronizingly, stroking her daughter’s head and large ears gently as the shinx turned several shades of pink in embarrassment and weekly mumbled out “nice to meet you” Normally Cody would be more sympathetic, especially since she’d gone out of her way to help his cousin, but after tonight the puppy was too emotionally drained to put up the effort. “… Cody. Nice to meet you and goodbye.” He said bluntly and turned to walk off… even as he could hear his little sister call out “I’m Arya! Nice to meet you, bye bye~” with more emotion than he’d managed before the houndour hurried up to catch up with him and Violet.
Looking ahead Cody could still see Vanessa and Teddy walking along slowly, the litleo leaning against the vulpix as he staggered. So much for the big plan of helping cheer his cousin up. Not only that but Violet’s first Halloween in Viridian got messed up too. This had to be the worst Halloween ever (not counting his times back at the orphanage) for them… “She was pretty~” Arya suddenly said, snapping Cody out of his funk as he glanced over to see his baby sister smiling to him. She was still in that adorably blunt, innocent stage and probably thought the shinx would be a fun playdate. Chuckling Cody leaned over and nuzzled her, glad that the night hadn’t been enough to dampen her spirits. It wasn’t a total write off at least even if Cody was hard pressed to think of how it could have gone worse…
**************************************
SMACK! SMACK! SMACK!
Meanwhile another spirit was being reddened. Terri sobbed and struggled, the pumpkaboo splayed out across her big sister’s lap and her diaper pulled down as Jackie padded Terri’s bottom. Considering how important Halloween, and trick-or-treating, was for a little pumpkaboo being forced to come home early (especially when her younger siblings were still out with their mom) was a horrible punishment. Being told your candy was going to be put away to be given to the person you’d upset along with an in-person apology was a horrible punishment. Being left with the guilt you’d upset one of the few people you considered a friend all while your big sister lectures you about how you’ve been going too far with your baby games and acting like a spoiled brat was a horrible punishment. Add in a spanking on top of all that with the promise of corner time to let your red bottom cool followed by early bedtime (even earlier than Terri’s infant sister’s bedtime) to come after?
The sobbing pumbkaboo couldn’t deny, this was the worst Halloween ever!!!
The End.

SMACK! SMACK!
The End.

yeah... but I want to try and cheer him up... while also not getting Cody hyper-protective cousin on me. ^w^; *gets to Teddy's eye level and headtilts, wearing a pirate hat over the headset as I stand just far enough away to not bother him yet close enough to attempt to stroke his cheekfur*
best I just leave him be... ^w^; considering what he can do... yeah.... *uses Phantom force to rub his back like a caretaker soothing a toddler while setting a whole pail of candy for him on the end of his bed* Still... can't help but wanna cuddle the poor fire cub. ^w^ *is imagining worse scenarios that could have happened as he smiles upon imagining Teddy dressed as a fairy, despite he'd look cute, I know that'll also drive him even more upset if this ever happened, especially in a Waddler's diaper*
She's still struggling a bit with her desire to coddle a cutie like Teddy, and her own sympathy for the kiddo that nobody let grow up until he snapped under the pressure. She does say her shipping senses are tingling though. She's just not sure whether it aims towards two little lion cubs or the little angel and Cody. X3
Like the others, if there's something i could do to help the little fire-poke out.. i'd do it/want to do it.
There's nothing inherantly wrong with diapers, especially not if.. well.. you can't help it... *blushes slightly, worried slightly that he's being insensitive in some way... (I... tend to do that off-and-on.. saying things way-over-blunt/obvious and such)
