Here's another drawing involving rats. As you can see, the white rat comfortably sitting in the beach chair incredibly content with his life is the Atheist. Behind him are a radical Muslim, a braindead Mormon, and an extremely biased fat Christian bitch. He's in the blue spotlight, and they're stuck in the dark. Good symbolism, yea? I just wanted to explain how fucking awesome Atheism is in a drawing. Here it is, kids.

Arrogance? Are you fucking kidding me? It's religious people who are making outrageous claims about gods and higher powers and who expect, nay DEMAND others to respect these beliefs without showing ANY sort of evidence to demonstrate that their beliefs are true! And yet atheists are arrogant?

I do believe that there is a natural cycle of warming and cooling and that our behavior of pumping greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere is messing with that system, yes.
"Mainspring of Human Progress"? What does any of this have to do with economics? We are talking about religious beliefs here, and none of the religions that humanity has come up with are supported by any evidence.

Of course I only accept scientific evidence. Because science is our best tool to explore and explain reality.
Morality also isn't absolute. It constantly changes.
The supernatural can't exist for one simple reason: Everything that exists is part of nature and reality. So if the supernatural exists it is part of reality and therefore not supernatural but natural.
No, I did not read that. I also don't see how this would help if I had read it.

If morals are absolute, why did they change over the years...? Why is it acceptable in America to sentence people to death but not in other countries like Europe? Why was it acceptable to marry your siblings in the middle ages but not today anymore?
If morals were absolute we would all abide to the same morals standards and these standards and these standards wouldn't have changed. But we don't and they did.

Just thought I’d throw in my two cents seven years later...
If it’s accepted by atheists that everything was a bizarre accident and is ultimately meaningless, then that means the same thing for morality, right? So why bother with them at all? Why not go full-blown survival of the fittest? Anarchy and raging lunacy aren’t so bad since they’re meaningless, right? Why should anyone get worked up over anything?

just thought i'd through in *my* two cents four years later…
if it's accepted by godists that everything was externally controlled and is ultimately meaningless, then that means the same thing for morality, right? so why bother with them at all? why not go full-blown survival of the stupidest? dictatorship and raging idiocy aren't so bad since they're under God's control, right? why should anyone have sane responses to anything?
answer: because that position is straw nihilism, which as conveniently as it would be for winning a debate, doesn't actually match either belief or nonbelief in any god or gods.

I’m just struggling to see how nothingness is comparable to external influence, especially if we start getting into the idea of free will and predestination coexisting, and the even broader idea of a being not bound by our perception or logic.
What you describe in your straw nihilist flipside isn’t meaninglessness; it’s a response to meaning you don’t like.

I agree it is a good one.
When a JW or some one comes knocking at the door and a furry is dressed in their suit opening the door I hope it scares them away. I find that people will go to churches or temples on their own if they want to be preached to. Not some guy at a convention saying it is a sin to go to Comicon like a WBC preacher would.
This is a good one for religious and irreligious alike one could relate.

Atheism is the absence of belief, nothing else. Atheism is the realization that everything is ultimately meaningless and completely random. You and I are completely devoid of meaning and of worth. Our home is a dying, uncaring universe. That is the cold, bitter truth. I find it funny how many "atheists" simply take Christian views and then color a bit atheism over it. What a joke. Where is good old Friedrich when you need him?
you had it in the first sentence. the rest is a nihilist interpretation, which can just as easily come from beliefs in gods or any other external things controlling your existence. nihilism even happens at the mundane level, when people consider their conditions, attribute it all to luck, and don't even attempt to exercise what limited power they do have over their conditions.
i am more a fan of Marcus, tho it is not in me to change your mind, so i will be content with having done what i reasonably can.
