Because every game reaches that point where you're no longer adventuring just for the XP grind, or the gold. But because you love exploring the world with your badass character.
So here is gladio in war mode, with actual armor that is actually protective.
As for the world around him, Gladio is never going to be the sort to sit down and take a desk job. Even with great status and power he'd much rather be leading expeditions to lost corners of the world with his best friends than ruling over people.
Which is why, though he's officially knighted by this point. His given lands by the kingdom of Avenas (constitutional monarchy due to Phil's 21st century influence) are run by an elected council of citizens. Technically they govern in the stead of the local baron. Who technically owns the property the various towns sit on. But in reality the now well educated common folk run things, and small parcels of land are sold to them as it becomes available. (some nobles are Aghast at this... commoners... owning land... the scandal...)
It's interesting to begin to see small fantasy-style villages have electric lighting and heating powered by their water or windmill.
Time for some expeditions into the eldritch north, or towards the dark imperial lands!
