RACES OF NOVA
THE HARPIES
The Charming Merchants of the Paradise Islands of Rizkus
While most races of Nova were created as tools of war, servants of the gods to wage war on each other on a war to dominate the creation the Ancient Gods left behind, the Harpies were born out of the love shared between two deities, they are creatures born out of affection and passion, and while their origins are not tied to the Old War the harpies are quite capable to hold themselves on the conflicts in present Nova.
BODY & BUILD
Female harpies have slender bodies adorned with light colored feathers which colors range from bright yellow to dusty light borwn, sharp beaks and inquisitive eyes along with cheerful expressions are the standard in a harpy female face, they posses talons on both their hands and feet and both are capable of holding griping tools.
Harpies wings are not capable of true flight outside of their elemental form, instead harpies use their wings to glide or perform slow decents, few harpies are capable of flying outside of their elemental form but it require intense training to be able to it.
Just like the Foxen harpies bones are not only very light but partially hollow, this means their bodies are extremely lightweight compared to most races, while this means this means their bodies are somewhat fragile, like Foxens harpies move with incredible grace and agility.
Harpy females have provocative figures and curves, probably as means of attracting potential mates, even members of other races consider harpy females as attractive as female members of their own species, some believe this to be product of the harpies ancient origin, being creatures born out of love they seem to have a certain magical charm to them.
SOCIETY & ROLES
Harpy Females outnumber their male counterparts by quite the number, so females perform most of the roles in their society, while males are also able to perform any role they want they are usually protected and sheltered individuals, harpies have very flexible social roles and are more liberal in their cultural approach, this of course classhes with the more traditional and rigid social views of other races such as the Foxens or the Rodencians.
THE CURSE OF A JEALOUS GODESS
The origins of the harpies is a love story that end up in tragedy, the Godess Venus and the God Dion rejected the war the other gods waged, they ran away from the conflict and consumed their love far away, this act of passion unwillingly created a race, a race that worked as testimony of the love between two powerful beings, but ancient tales say that whileboth gods loved each other for years and years eventually Dion felt that he had avoided his responsability with the world the Ancients left behind, and so he left to join the conflict in hopes of being able to finally bring it to an end and save creation from an eternity of conflict, Vensu then was left alone to watch over their creations, but the godess loved Dion too much his absence chipping away at her will, she didnt care about the war or anything else she only wanted her loved one back her patient vigil soon began to feel like torture to her, but she could not leave to look for Dion, in her absence their creation would be left alone prey to other gods taht might set their eyes on them, so Venus waited for Dion to return each passing day chipping at her sanity until the day the unthinkable, happened, Vensu watched as a harpy couple consumed their love, she watched the same many times but this time she was at breaking point, why could her creation enjoy the fruits of love while she had to wait in agony, unloved and in a fit of anger and jaelousy she unleashed all her fury upon her creations, female harpies watched in horror as hundreds of thousands of the male harpies just dropped dead where they stood, if I can't have my love then nobody will the mad Godess reasoned, far in the distant battlefields Dion felt the terrible harm that had happened to his creation, and with divine speed he dashed in their help, then he saw the one he loved, her face twisted by anger this certainly could not be the loving godess he loved so much, how could she do such thing to the living testimony of their love, Venus rage faded away when she realized what terrible thing she juts did but it was too late tomend her terrible act she saw Dion before her, his face one of sadness and dissapointment, Venus wanted to apologize to set things right but Dion wanted no explanations he acted with haste to mend the damage done in a bright flash his essence broke apart and bathed the islands, many of the dead males were brought back to life but many remained dead the wrath Venus rained upon them too strong to be countered by a god that had spent much of his strenght in the battlefield, his little strenght only served to ward of the curse just partially, the male harpies number would remain low Dion's essence slowly lifting the curse away, he would only be whole again when the curse finally subsides his appereance and power manifesting sometimes on a harpy male an avatar of the god, wielding a fragment of his powers and shatters of his memories he loks up to the skies knowing someone he loves is up there waiting for him, while on the skies Venus mourn her terrible actions as she waits for her loved Dion to be whole again to ask him if he would forgive her and ask him if he loves her still.
To the present day the curse still remains, slowly lifting away while the harpies have a mourning godess in the skies watching over them and a tired god walking among them protecting them.
