based from morenatsu kouya route, but I modify the ending into a bad ending
In Akagawa’s elementary school, there was a certain boy. He wasn’t from a rare species, just an ordinary boy. He wasn’t unhealthy, just a normal boy in every way. However, he was from an especially poor family in Akagawa village. Perhaps because of that, despite his normality, he had a certain particular habit. Rather than an action, it was more of a catchphrase. “can I take that?”. Despite how young he was, he seemed to understand how poor his household was. He would never ask that of things that were important to others. But for unneeded things that were still usable, he would often say that.
Friends, teachers, the adult villagers. Anyone, really. The boy was kind to everyone. To the ones he asked, they’d often already thought about tossing it away. With no special reason to refuse him, they would give it to him. After some point, it seemed as if everyone began asking the boy if he wanted everything they threw away. In a way, it was a version of modern day recycling. No one was unhappy about it, and it was a simple relationship.
However, with such a strangely projected-on person, there was a certain seed of inevitability. Amongst that boy’s classmates, there seemed to be such a child. Thus, several of those unpleasant boys gathered, and several instances of bullying occurred. In this boy’s case, he was placed under that unfortunate circumstance. The boy was exposed to many forms of bullying. However, the boy just endure it, never crying, even for a moment.
When any onlookers saw this state of affairs, it seemed as though they thought it couldn’t be helped. That was considered the wise decision. And yet, the consequences were far from ideal. As the boy show no reaction to the bullying, the other children began steadily escalate their actions. That may be where it all began. The bullying became much more direct, and at last the boy was dealt a serious injury. From his right eye down his cheek, there was a great big gash. With much a deep wound, the boy lost his right eye, and was left with an enormous scar. It seems that’s what the doctor said.
However, the medical treatment required money. The boy’s family was especially poor in the village. Yet they still had something saved up. The boy’s parents would use those saving, and one way or another the boy’s wound would be healed. It was the silver lining in the cloud. Yes, that was what anyone who saw the boy thought. He had lost his right eye, but he still had his life. However the boy did not join in with everyone’s happiness around him, and fully embraced the unhappiness within himself.
It wasn’t even a few days after the cut was stitched before the boy collapsed due to a high fever. The doctor examined him, only to realized that the gash had become a dangerous weapon of sorts: bacteria had entered through it. The boy’s parent cried as they asked the doctor. “isn’t there anything we can do?” to that, the doctor replied slowly and calmly. “there is a way. For this infection, tgere us an effective medicine.” The doctor explain to the boy’s parent. “then, our biy will-“ the boy’s parent replied. “please be calm. To be sure, I have found that medicine. However….. the medicine was expensively priced” as the doctor calmly and cruelly informed the parents.
The boy family was the poorest in the village. Yet they still had something saved up. But now, it was no longer enough. They frantically did what they could to gather money. They worked from sun up to sun down, as well as asking their acquaintances. Still, even that wasn’t enough. Time waits for no one, and it brings all to the same end. And then, and the third day after the boy’s collapse he departed from this world.
At his side as he laid face up, the boy’s apologetic parents only said, “we can’t do anything about it”, and then it was as if he went to sleep. This family was the poorest in all the village. As such, the funeral services was carried out quietly. But according to the family, all of the villagers attended and offered incense. Among them, there was one child who cried in front of the deceased. It was that child, the one who had given him the injury.
While the boy was alive, when asked about the wound he would say “I fell by myself”. But such a wound could not be sustained from falling. When pressed, the parents, the doctor, and the boy all insisted that it was a fall until the end. The poor boy died, and though bully realized the weight of his actions, no one had the courage to speak to him about them. So he could only cry before the boy’s grave, all the while apologizing desperately from his heart.
Even after the services ended, the bully kept crying. The soul-crushing weight never disappeared. On the contrary, it kept piling up. If he spoke to anyone he would have been comforted. Sadly, he never found the courage. “What if I just died?”. Before he knew it, he was thinking about it. Then one day, the bully saw the boy in a dream. The distance between them was great, and it was also dark, so it was difficult to see the face.
But the gash down his face was visible, and it appeared that was all the boy thought about. “why are you making such a pained face?” The boy asked, in the same kind tone he used with everyone. Maybe it was because it was a dream, or maybe because it was the one he wronged, either way, the bully let out everything that he been bottling up. “I’m sorry that I killed you. But I never told that to anyone. I thought about dying too, and it hurts” . the bully said to the deceased boy.
“I see….” The deceased boy replied. The boy whispered quietly, then continued on like so. “Do you still want to die?” the deceased boy asked. “yeah, if it makes me feel better, dying is okay. I don’t want my life anymore!” said the bully. “Really. In that case….” Then, the boy who was far away was up close in an instant. And the thing that was reflected in the bully’s raised eye, along with sinister laughter, was his left eye. “Can I take that life and right eye?” the deceased boy replied.
As the bully woke up next morning he told his parents about everything, and lived with eternal nightmare. Right until the night after he told his parents, this time he dreamt the similar dream as before he told his parents. The next morning, the bully boy not coming out from his room so his parents went to his room and seeing him still sleeping. The bully’s mom trying to wake him up but what happen next shock her into hellish condition. As she froze to see his dead son she shake violently and the blood start to come out from the boy’s right eye.
Shocked from the blood stream, the boy’s father then open the boy eye and it is gone. As both of the bully’s parent cried and run into the deceased boy parents they also died while hugging together their child corps. The whole village shocked to see what’s happened in their village. The village chief then check the deceased boy grave, still intact with the coffin still buried, but the boy’s body disappeared. And so as the funeral taking place once again, but this time the deceased boy are placed between their parents grave.
And as for the bully corpse his parent decided to buried him far away from the deceased boy grave and leave with a endless stream of tears. The curse still continued toward the people who bullied the deceased boy until all of them all dead. The village abandon due to the curse of the “can I take that boy” curse.
