Sassafras 2.0 is very nearly completed! I have some airbrushing touchups to do and some adjustments to make to the padding. She is done enough to wear, so I wanted to show everyone how I've improved in costume making.
Since I also like walls of text, I'll go over some changes:
The head is 100% new. It is foam lined with headliner fabric. The eyes are flat plastic with mesh irises. Previously I used plastic bowls with buckram pupils. The vision was REALLY bad in my first head, so I made the ports significantly larger this time. Previously I used a plastic nose from DVC. (I would have used it again, but I lost it during my move :( ) This time it is worbla covered in apoxie sculpt. Both times I used whiskers I bought from Matrices. The ears are absolutely ridiculous on the 2.0 head, but they are growing on me. The ventilation in my first head was extremely poor. I didn't totally learn my lesson on tiny mouths, so the ventilation on the 2.0 head is still a little rough, but still much better.
Most of the bodysuit is the same. I did significant tailoring all around, including taking the sleeves and waist in. I also accidentally made the crotch too low, so I had to bring that up to allow for more leg movement. Everything from the knees down is brand new. You can see in one of my before shots that my calf padding didn't line up with my ankle very well. This time around, the calf piece and foot are permanently attached. There is a separating zipper just below the knee so I can remove the calf and foot for washing or whatever. (Fingers crossed that the zipper holds up to the stress.)
Oh! Big change to the bodysuit: I installed a new zipper in the front. It runs between the white and the brown on my left side. NEVER doing a back zipper ever again!!!
The tail is the same because it is perfect. I love the tail, I wear it alone frequently :) Paws are the same! Just a plain glove pattern with DVC silicone pawpads. I am debating making big, doofy paws using the same technique I used in the foot pawpads. (I'll put a pic of that up soon.)
Furs used are Monterey Mills Teddy in Koala and White. The belly is MM Fox in white. The head and body are two different dye lots of koala, but i don't think anyone but me can tell. Airbrushing all around.
