o3o finally got my own closed species, wanted to make one for a long time and Piannen (http://piannen.deviantart.com/) on Deviantart gave me a huge inspiration to make them XD
I don't have the full background on them yet, but I do have the basics about them written down here:
Environment: Dufealians live in deep waters, it differs from where exactly they live. Some live in light places: Dufealian Luminosus (Latin for luminous, luminescent), others live in dark places: Dufealian Obscurum (Latin for dark, darkness).
Both types are able to visit either places, though the Dufealian Luminosus will slightly glow when going to the darker environment, while Dufealian Obscurum will appear to have a darker colour scheme when visiting the lighter environment.
The glowing will often appear around their eyes and gems.
Body: All body shapes are possible; chubby, slim, short, long, etc. The only thing that will stay the same is the tail. As for colours, there will always be a lighter and darker part of the body. The lighter part is mainly located in the centre; face, throat, chest and stomach. Darker spots will be around that area. It is most common to have a slight splatter pattern, with bold lines, but smoothed out blends of colours is possible too. Ultra-Rare/Legendary designs will involve different patterns throughout the body (involving shapes like roses or hearts), those will still be in the same colour category but are rather rare to come across in the Dufealian community.
All Dufealians have big under arms and rather large hands with claws, this is originally for hunting and being able to grab objects, but they’d never use them for violence.
Gender: Dufealians have no specific genitals, all that might distinguish them is by them having feminine and masculine body types.
Sexuality: They are able to reproduce with any other Dufealian, so there is no specific limit on sexuality in the Dufealian community.
Hair: One mass of space coloured matter, no actual hair but does act like it. But this makes hair styles limited, long hair will be able to be collected in ponytails, knots and braids. It is pliable, but to a certain extent, a half up (strands on the side of head pulled back together) will not be possible, just because the matter itself will not see it as a ‘different’ part and will just fuse together with the rest of the hair. Braids are possible, but it needs a bit of preparation by making sure that the strands keep separated, which can be done by adding gems/shells/accessories. But the most common hair style is just long and wavy/blobby. Short hair is possible, but also here is a limit to styles.
Hair colours will differ, this also determines the overall colour scheme of the Dufealians; galaxy: body, gems and horns will have colours in the same kind of category.
Horns: The different shapes of horns is a basic mutation of the common version and depending on how often Dufealians are seen with a certain type will determine the rarity of those. Colours do not include with the rarity, it is very possible for a Dufealian with legendary horns to have a legendary colour pattern as well. Both legendary horns and legendary gem type on one Dufealian is seen as a higher ranked Dufealian, but do not have any different ‘statuses’, they will only be seen as the prettier ones and people see them as a role model. They tend to act a bit more elegant. But all respect one another equally.
Gems: As stated by ‘Horns’, gems have an added rarity on ‘rank’.
Chest Gems: The main gem, the biggest one on their chest, represents their life; the older they get, the duller the colour they will get (getting more grey), until they turn white: will make them turn into a gem themselves. These gems can be worn by their loved ones as a necklace/headpiece to show their devoted love for one another and never to be apart. The more 'jewel' gems on a Dufealians body will just tell others how many generations have passed those gems to them, even though it is a common act to give those gems to loved ones, some might still be lost because of sudden deaths and never being able to find those gems.
Eyes: Dufealian eyes have the same colour(s) as their horns, which will also indicate the rarity of the colour pallet of their horns. Their sclera is a dark grey, to make their vibrant coloured eyes pop even more.
Colours: Colours are limited, but whichever the galaxy colour is; will be the main colour for the Dufealian's body. Also, only Rare and Ultra-Rare will have the option for 3 different body colours, as Legendaries will have 4 different body colours. This is optional though!
An all Legendary Dufealian is so rare only a few of them exist, which does make it possible for them to reproduce but will only be able to have one offspring. An all Legendary Dufealian is able to be born from parents with more than 1 Legendary trait, but it is still very rare to have that happen.
