Okay, so this is my first fursuit; it took about three or four months total time (stretched out over about six months) to finish and hand-sew. Overall, I'm very happy with it; I wish that I hadn't used wire in the head to create a movable jaw, because the movable jaw broke and now I'm left with my hair getting tangled around the wires. >< Ah, well. I got to wear it to school on Halloween, though, and I won the "craftiest costume" in the costume contest. Yay for freaking out passers-by. XD It's amazing, though, how many people I've encountered who don't think that dragons can be furry. Blah, dragons can be anything you want them to be! *shakes fist*
Next I'm making a Lord Kass fursuit (Neopets), so I'll be pretty busy. Yay, more experience!

Some tips:
Purchase or make a spandex hood. JoAnns has patterns for them for pretty inexpensive, but you'll have to adjust it to accommodate spandex (just shrink the horizontal dimensions by 25% and you should be fine.)
The fur around the neck is distracting and would show up in a photograph far too well. I recommend adding fur to the neck of the bodysuit and trimming the fur and attaching it at the base of the head. You can add some velcro, or cheat and use something like a collar to keep the fur around your neck nice and snug. There are lots of other things you can do as well, including using a basting gun (JoAnns) to attach the fur to the body suit. The basts are plastic and break easily enough when you want to pull the head off. They're handy to have around anyway.
It's not half bad for a first costume. Actually, its better than many professionals' work.
Have fun. Hope to see it at AC.
