After fighting heavily on the second day in the peach orchard and wheat field at Gettysburg, the 72nd New York had been sent to the rear after loosing most of their officers and nearly all of their men the day before. Jefferson D. Bussey left his regiment in order to find ammunition for his regiment while they were sent to protect the rear of the army. However, while retrieving ammunition near a copse of trees on cemetery ridge, the rebels under General George Pickett began a charge up the ridge.
Knowing that the troops holding the line would need as much help as they could get, Jefferson joined a fellow New York regiment, the 45th, who was holding the line near a crook in the stone wall......... "The Angle"
Got this commissioned by the great
