This is one of those very old pieces I have repainted almost completely since I started early on. It was definitely refreshing to work on something lighter between all those darker images lately.

The advice I can give you is either stronger/thicker outlines or different lighting effects which make some part of the main focus of the picture stand out... or a larger variety of dark colors. The few dark pics I've seen had an abundance of brown and black that drowned out all the other colors.
