When I tell people that President Elect Trump is not the hardcore republican that he plays on TV, and that once he gets into office he will reveal himself to be much more moderate on a lot of these topics and, instead, focus on our economy, international relations and national security - many people tell me that it was all hopeful speculation on my part. And yet, as CNN and other irresponsible media outlets continue to scrutinize him, Trump has begun to blatantly do just as I predicted.
See, there was a time (before many of you were born) when Trump was an open and radical leftist in his political views. I remember that. And I know that while people may lean one way or the other given the current state of the world, they don't change their minds 180 degrees on every. single. issue.
Here are a few screen caps showing how Trump has been openly backing off of some of his extreme right-sided views that he has expressed during his campaign. These are only a few key points. There are many others like this.

My only problem is that he is currently planning to appoint a supreme court judge who actually does hate gay marriage, he is appointing the head of environment as a climate change denier, and his head of education is anti evolution. All of those are republican mindsets that rub me the wrong way. It's fine that you like him, I simply think hes making decisions that go against my beliefs.
No two people are the same. And in a country of over 300 million people there is absolutely no way to make everyone happy. He ran as a republican so he has to throw them some bones I guess. Hell, I never once said Trump was perfect, just that he wasn't as bad as the media has been trying to make him look. Fortunately, this is a democratic republic, not a dictatorship.
His main adviser was the head of Breitbart and bragged that it was the platform for the alt-right and this guy that just suggested internment camps for Japanese-Americans were a precedent is also and adviser: https://twitter.com/bad_takes/statu.....79032499343360
Trump may not be very anti-LGBT himself but he's surrounding himself with a lot of people who are, as well as racists and generally scary incompetent Republicans. Even if he's competent at what you say he'll focus on (which I don't think he is) he'll have to throw the conservatives some bones, like anti-LGBT and anti-abortion supreme court justices or taking away health insurance from those on Obamacare like Paul Ryan is already planning on doing.

The one and only good thing to come from Obamacare is that health insurance can no longer deny you for a "pre-existing condition." That was always the most bullshit of things they could do to force people like myself to always have insurance, because if it were to have lapsed even one day all insurance companies would no longer cover my Crohn's. Without insurance to help cover my bills I would either be dead or homeless from the rediculously high medical bills I would have.
Hell, even my Humira, which I require a shot of weekly, would put me so in debt I could never climb out of the hole. And I need this medication to even have a semblance of a proper life. If I were to go without, even if I did not end up in the hospital, I would be tethered to always being less than a minute from an available restroom. That, or I would be forced to wear an adult diaper at the ripe old age of 24.

My sympathies, man. I can't imagine how much that must suck. I had a friend years ago who's boyfriend suffered from Crohn's. Never would'a known by looking at him. He was a nice and happy person. Never did't smile. He never had problems with his insurance that I knew of. Always had his meds and was always going out to the movies with us so I assumed money wasn't an issue with him. I don't know what insurance he was with...
I had a patient once who was only like 16 years old who had Crohn's. Again, super sweet kid. He was covered by his mother's insurance. Which, now I believe a person can be covered by their parent's insurance until they are 26. Is that not an option for you?

Not since I am working. My Crohn's is bad enough at times that I may as well be disabled, and for four years I could barely even leave the house, yet I somehow did not qualify for disability. I was completely unable to work or anything.
Also, because I am only part time since that is all I can handle right now, I will not be able to qualify for insurance through my work for at least another 4 months. So I am kinda stuck in a hard place right now.

Okay you wanna talk about Obamacare? Let's talk about Obamacare. I work in healthcare. I know all about Obamacare and how it has devastated healthcare providers and their patients alike.
First of all. Better than nothing??? There is no "nothing". Before Obamacare, we had Medicaid. We still have Medicaid. But for people who cannot afford private insurance or do not have an employer who will provide health insurance, Obama will penalize citizens if they do not sign up for Obamacare. These people have no choice but to sign up otherwise they will be fined roughly $2000 during tax season. Chances are, if you cannot afford your own insurance, you sure as hell can't afford a $2000 fine.
Secondly. For those who have it, Obamacare is pretty much useless. By that I mean - "nothing" is better than Obamacare. The premiums are so high, it's often more affordable not to use it at all and pay for your annual checkup or medical procedure out of pocket. For example, my friend recently had to have a root canal and she found that the cost of the procedure itself was cheeper than what she would have to pay with Obamacare. So she has it and just doesn't use it. This has become such a problem for so many practices that they have recently begun developing payment plans for patients who could not afford their own premiums, rather than accept their insurance.
And finally. My first experience with Obamacare, (what we in the healthcare industry refer to as the Great "Obamascare") was abysmal. The morning after Obamacare was enacted, 6 of my coworkers were laid off. 2 of our competitors in the tri-county area went under overnight and had to shut down. Within the week, several of our patients were no longer able to afford our service which they needed 2 to 3 times a week in order to live (a majority of them being dialysis patients who were immobile or bed bound) and would die without regular dialysis treatments. They began calling 911 and going to the hospital for dialysis on a regular basis. Some dialysis providers even shut down. One of my patients, a young man, had to be transferred to another facility with a negligent physician who ignored the history that we gave him, died 3 weeks later due to malpractice. That could have been avoidable if he had been able to remain with the dialysis team who knew him and adored him.
Businesses meant to help care for the ill shut down. People lost their jobs and patients lost their lives thanks to Obamacare.
Medicaid may have been sorely abused, but it didn't force anyone into anything and it certainly didn't devastate lives.
Since then, healthcare providers have been coping with the change. Providing options for Obamacare patients with payment plans and cheaper healthcare costs to help combat the crippling cost of Obamacare and its premiums.

I must defer on your experience of its defects but it did give people that never could have gotten insurance a chance of that and forbade discriminating based on pre-existing conditions and not covering some women's health option. But it was inadaquate first step as I said and would have needed reform, a public option or expansion of medicade would have been better. Paul Ryan's plan for dismantling Obamacare involves abolishing Medicare btw.
But my biggest scare on Trump isn't health care policy but his authoritarianism, intolerance of criticism, disregard for the rule of law and corruption. His conflicts of interest are unprecedented and the biggest names he's promised to appoint are a collection of racists, bullies and bigots that have praised an even worked for foreign authoritarian leaders. http://www.slate.com/articles/news_.....worst_men.html

Well he has never said anything at all about the LGBTQ community. Except for the fact that he would defend them and protect them from extreme foreign ideology.
And he still intends to deport illegal immagrants. He's just taking a softer tone with it.
He still wants to repeal and replace Obamacare but he won't repeal it until he can replace it.
The fact is - his tone is softening on social matters and remaining firm on economic and international matters.
The president's job is to keep our country strong and safe so that its citizens continue to have the freedoms to own businesses, speak out for or against whatever cause we choose, peacefully protest, ect. While we the people choose who can marry who, what genders we can be, life vs choice or what bathrooms a business chooses to have, the POTUS should be focused on not getting us or our allies blown up, ridding our nation of /at least some/ of our crippling debt, and so on.
And if we wanna talk about "flip flopping" on matters, how about we talk about all of Obama's abandoned promises like: closing tax loopholes for corporate CEOs, allowing medicare to negotiate for cheeper drug prices, expanding the Family Medical Leave Act to include leave for domestic violence or sexual assault, college debt forgiveness... I could go on for days. Or we could talk about how Hillary Clinton makes promises to help inner city communities and black communities and underfunded schools every 4 years when she runs for POTUS but then abandons as secretary of state. Or all of the wildly expensive promises that Bernie made to his supporters that were fiscally impossible. His social intentions were good. I agreed with him a lot there but he was bound to disappoint a looooot of people with his promises of free college, debt forgiveness and massive hikes in minimum wage.
That's not to say that only democratic presidents and nominees are guilty of this. Pretty much every president after George Washington was guilty of changing their tune once elected. So to treat Trump like he is the only one guilty of this is simply biased.

That still doesn't make me go "oh okay"
So what you're telling me basically is, he can say and do literally all the stuff he has done, all in the name of winning a campaign, then it's suddenly okay and not an issue because afterwards he tries to backtrack? So I'm supposed to erase and ignore literally all that other stuff because he's proposing something else now? That makes zero sense to me and offers little comfort. If someone can go around saying 'I dislike black people' then suddenly when he gets a new job say "well black people aint so bad now" that doesn't mean I'm going to ignore the first crack.
For another, just because someone calls out the wrongdoing of one person doesn't mean they're okay with or haven't noticed or called out the wrong of another person. And another person doing wrong doesn't negate the wrongdoing of the first person. People are more than capable, as I am, of saying "I dislike Trump and here's why" while also being aware of the issues of other folks.
On Obama's presidency, he was cock blocked on nearly EVERY SINGLE TURN by Congress. He was already up against a brick wall when he stared his presidency and wasn't able to break through as much as he was. I also have my reservations about his care of the black community. But this ain't about Obama. This is about TRUMP.
But Trump suddenly deciding (and I really don't think he has based on the links I'm about to throw down) that he's going to take a "softer" stance on these issues doesn't automatically erase the fear and hatred he's already put out there. At all. And you're asking minorities to overlook it for what? A proposition? Even though we clearly see he's aligning himself with folks who already were gung ho about his campaign rantings BEFORE he became president. What about that? That doesn't make me go "this person is clearly changed and is not nearly as fucked as HE HIMSELF made himself out to be" it's more of a clear indicator that Trump says things and does things for attention, when it's convienient for him. That's not something to base any truth off of or hold any faith too. If he can say all that stuff, then when the time is right foreogo it, How is that in any way something that I'm supposed to actively hold with any grain of salt?
And what about this: https://twitter.com/sarahkendzior/s.....20311582212096
And him saying he would sign the First Amendment Defense Act isn't directly saying anything about LGBT but that doesn't mean him doing something like this wouldn't affect them. Actions are just as bad as words. http://www.thedailybeast.com/articl.....-steroids.html
So I can't sit here and actively agree with him 'softening his tone' when he's so easily able to also spout hateful bigoted rhetoric at the drop of a hat. If you're able to say the shit that he has said ALL in the name of getting the vote on something, it doesn't make me go "oh he wasn't hateful, he just wanted more votes" it also doesn't allow me to actively have faith in his ability to go back on the things he once said when, as I said, he's aligning himself with people like Pence or Banning. You can say one thing, just like he has been doing this entire time talking with that big mouth for all that attention he ate up, but your actions have to actively reflect that if you want people to consider you differently. And that's NOT what Trump is doing.

Also I just noticed my other comment was gone. I fucked up earlier and deleted it. It was probably on purpose as I was going through and removing my comments from other shit. My bad. It pretty much said "So you're saying he can say some massively fucked up things to get the job as president, turn around and say something different, and you're wanting me to be like 'oh okay'?" Yeah No"
This just for people who wonder what the hidden comment was

Problem is that there is only so much a President can actually do. Yes the president has a very loud voice that can be heard by pretty much everyone, but for the most part the ones actually doing things are the House and the Senate. It could be quite possible that Obama intended Obamacare to be different than it turned out to be, and that he could do nothing to stop it from becoming what it did. Everyone is always so worried about the President that gets elected that it seems people care little about House and Senate representatives, despite it being they that make the laws.
Except that the people who are now being elected to those positions or in positions of power right along Trump are also people who hold the same notions. The majority of those houses that are supposed to provide checks and balances on the President are republican. It's not entirely unheard of for people to be worried about the OTHER positions of power that are right beside trump as a lot of them hold the same exact notions. It's kinda hard to provide checks and balances when you have other peers who feel the exact same way as you.
But no, I'm well aware the president doesn't have absolute power. But just because he wasn't able to do anything and everything he wants doesn't make him less of an issue.

Voted against him based on his campaign statements and his cabinet proposals...
but he won, it would seem. So what can I do? bitch and whine for 4-8 years like everyone else that voted "against" him? or NUT UP give him a fair shot. besides that... half of the extreme proposals, including the ones he has already dismissed, would have been impossible to accomplish and likely end up mothballed by his successor.
Bottom line is, I have to respect him...
MY ONLY CONCERN, when it comes to the issues alarmists are raising... MIKE PENCE...
anti-gay
pro-CHRISTIAN-freedom
anti-marijuana
...if anything happens to Trump's administration (And as scandalous as his campaign was, we have to acknowledge his administration could be too...) That is who we are stuck with for the rest of the term, right? Trump may be a voice of reason at the moment but...citing marijuana for example... what if both the president appointed AG and the sitting-president agreed that "marijuana is a pox on society, crackdown!" nevermind if they got Joe Arpaio (or someone like him) which is what he said he would do on the campaign...and Arpaio resisted legalization in Arizona... and he mentioned a position for Christie, who is also adamantly against his own state's program to the point he admittedly impedes it's progress...
AND OF COURSE ALL OF THIS SPECULATION HAPPENS BEFORE HE EVEN MAKES IT TO DAY ONE...
soooo... Here's hoping he was playing everyone for a fool and does a good job and actually takes care of that swamp and doesn't get taken out of the game for doing a good job (assassination, impeachment, incarceration, or whatever...)
