I made a layer for each part of the blade and filled it completely, without transparency, with a pre-made gradient. One is from top to down and the other is from left to right. Together it gives that pointed, angular look. Then I added a quick plastic filter to both.
For the handle, I did the same thing, only with a different gradient and at different angles. The star shaped one is in burst angle and the other, last part is like the blade, only with a flipping of the gradient.
Cool, aye. ^\/^.

Thanks for the comments.
When it comes to coloring my pictures, I have a love for filling the whole thing with color and / or gradients for quick coloring.
Before that, I make 2 copies of the same layer. One is to color and give an even or gradual transparency and the other is to combine with to keep the lines in place.
The blue part of the coat, for example, is comprised of 2 of the same layers. One was filled with blue and given a gradual transparency to make it seem lighter on one side than the other and then it was flattened with the original so one can see the lines still.
I did not even use a brush once in this one. This is all solid fills and gradients with transparencies involved.

Though I do not like carrying ranged weapons, if someone tried to pick me off from a distance I can just use my superior swords skills, speed and reflexes to reflect the projectile right back at them like a Jedi does. LOL.
