This delicate and precious necklace displays an absolutely perfect Norway rat skull, complete with all teeth and lower jaw. The skull came from a young female who died of natural causes. Unlike most of my skulls I simple thoroughly (and gently) cleaned the specimen and gave it a peroxide whitening, thus allowing the natural eggshell-white beauty to take center stage. The teeth have been lightly glossed and the skull is a museum quality specimen - even the minuscule internal ear bones are there, as well as the turbinates. Skulls really are one of nature's most amazing sculptures and this necklace emphasis that wonderfully.

I accented the skull by linking a delicate 14k gold EP ring through each infraorbital foramen (that's the small natural hole just below and in front of each eye socket, if you didn't know.) Another gold EP ring is inserted into the back of the skull via a tiny hole drilled with a jeweler's drill, and a thin white chain runs through that link. The chain itself is 22 inches in length and closes with a gold-plated lobster clasp.

The skull is almost 1 1/2 inches in length. Somehow the small size of the skull seems to add to its beauty. Those who like tiny detailed things will appreciate this. :)
