"What would you say got you started in art? Did you start off in traditional artwork or digital? And if traditional, what type of medium do you prefer?"
Well, my parents divorced when I was 10, and my step mother was... Unfair to me, in a lot of ways. Her disciplines were cruel, her "Love" was a joke, and she was so controlling that when I finally started learning who I was, she tried to squash it. To escape, I watched cartoons. Mostly Anime, like Dragonball Z, Gundam Wing... Typical 90s Toonami stuff... as well as video games. I didn't own a video game system (my step sister did, and she teased me with it all the time) but I did have my imagination. So I started drawing as a way to create my own original characters and insert them into my favorite animes! I wrote fan fiction, and I did a lot of drawing focused around them.
I started with traditional art, I have to say. Drawing tablets and the concept of digital media being done by independent artist was a radical notion while I grew up, the 90s, and the internet wasn't really that big a thing until my mid junion-high school years. Besides, being an abuse victim, I knew my step mom was never going to shell out the thousands of dollars to get me one, and my Dad was wrapped around her finger... So, I had to start drawing using my school supplies. Graph paper, college ruled, number 2 pencils, the works. So yes, I learned to draw on the real thing, which I'm thankful for.
By FAR, though, my favorite medium to draw in is Digital! It's where I've done most of my best work, it takes me less time and money to maintain, and it's just so... clean and smooth. No pencil lines, no brush strokes, just a smooth canvas to put whatever I can imaging.
Hope I answered your question to satisfaction,
! I'm excited for the next one!
