The cake is a Checkerboard of Vanilla and Strawberry cake inside and has been iced with buttercream icing.
The outside was decorated with a basket weave style decoration and topped off with assorted purple flowers and leaves, all done in buttercream.

I had fun making this and, well, I hope it's okay to submit here I am a furry artist (Even if this isn't exaclty furry!)
It took quite the while but I think it came out okay given the fact I really was lacking in enough equipment and I had frosting issues. The flowers came out far to wilty as first my frosting was a little to stiff, then I ended up making it way to soft... Blech. Though it came out great for the leaves and the basket weave sides.
Anyway, enjoy!

Be happy to share some! And I try to include good descriptions and the like here too and explain things out.
And for the record, I think they do count... Sure, it's good to know how to do it on your own, but box mixes have some great advantages.
1. Cake flour is expensive.
2. Box mixes access to chemicals and things that are harder for the at home baker to get their hands on. They've got all your leavening, flour, milk, flavors, all in one thing. Sure you can buy it all separately (And while I do indeed have all that stuff too..) it's easy and economical and, yah know what, a lot of those box mixes make a great product.
3. Box mixes are easy to augment. Cookies and cream cake? No problem! Take a white cake mix, follow box directions and put into pans. Sprinkle over crushed sandwich cookies. Bake as normal. You'll have something like this...

This one also had strawberry between the layers, heh.
You know, I should submit that one here... even though it's from ages ago when I did it.
Though it is good to know how to "bake from scratch" and I've done it plenty of times but I'll admit I often use box mixes for cakes. But I always make my own frosting. It's easy to make and tastes tons better than what you buy out of a can.
