There was very big radioastronomical observatory, established in 1950s and worked hard to 2000s. Dozens of telescopes for different tasks.
In 1960s this telescope even was used in SETI-like project.

*nods* I totally understand. Even with my university that overcharged for everything, we still had to pay $35,000 for a heavily used magnetron for our radar. No doubt that radio equipment at this scale is at least this expensive. It's good that the SDR is being installed and that the mechanics are being worked on. It sounds like they will have a 90% complete job in another 5 to 10 years or so. :)
