Brer Fox was immediately hired to work at Mr. Drew's sawmill when he arrived in Ellaville.
He was surprised to find out that his foreman was Mr. Riverton, the friendly fellow he met fishing from the bridge when he first arrived in Ellaville.
He was immediately recognized as an exemplary employee. His pay was 40 cents an hour.
This photo was taken at Suwannacoochie Springs near what was once Elllaville, FL.
On the banks of the Withlacoochie River and just west of its confluence with the Suwannee River, it is believed that the concrete ruins you see once housed the paddle wheel or flywheel that powered the sawmill. Just a few traces (concrete chunks and bricks) of Ellaville and the sawmill remain today.
