Our family's used that term for pregnancy (along with "Shotgun Wedding").

Why didn't he write? Well… in a war (a) he'd dead; (b) he's wounded and can't write; ( c ) he's sowed his Oat's and moves onto the next mare.

My parents were born before the Great Depression, so a lot of phrases that would seem 'quaint' today have filtered down to me. Question is, does anybody recognize the quote?

Depends if was able to avoid the Cornfield or not. we have the Medal of Honor because of a train chase in that time. we also had ironclad ships at that time, too. I would have to ask the Rabbi if guns had progressed to brass cartridges at that time.
there were a lot of interesting designs. the Puckle gun, the Blunderbus, none really accurate, and of course the Parrot rifiled cannons were an improvement over the smoothbores and fired rounds in stead of round cannon balls. interesting times. in more ways than one.

There were some small arms that used metallic cartridges. Such as The Spencer, the Henry, and the Burnside.

The Puckle Gun was from the 1600s not the 1800s of the Civil War. The Blunderbus was used in the 1700s.

Well, we do of course need a sequel to this. Maybe a nice distant sequel with Kilroy II all gussied up in, I'm guessing by that time would be WWI regalia?

The Civil War ended in 1865. WWI started in 1914. So Kilroy II would at least be in his 50s, and thus not eligible for military service in The Great War.
