Finally got around to designing a mom for Furlock. He obviously had one, but now she's an actual, developed character. I wanted her to be equal parts Ellen Ripley and Jenette Vasquez (Aliens), and Undyne (Undertale). I wanted her to be a strong, independent woman with a strong motherly instinct, but one who wouldn't take shit from anyone for any reason. I also wanted her to have a wildly passionate side when it came to Furlock's interests, such that even if she knew nothing about what he was talking about, she'd dedicate an entire day to learning just so that she could talk with him as passionately as he talked about things he loved.


Bio:

Asena is Furlock O'Donnell's mother. She is a tall wolf with black fur, long red hair and red eyes. She is physically fit, with an athletic build and a tight, firm bust.

A mercenary like Wolf O'Donnell, Asena prefers to work alone and rarely keeps any real company. Living aboard her ship, the Fenrir's Tooth, Asena travels around the Lylat System looking for work and hunting for bounties. A skilled mechanic and tinkerer, she not only maintains her ship, but also programmed it's AI. Asena has no real interest in personal relationships, especially with men, viewing them as a waste of time. She only ever had feelings for one man once, and that was long ago.

When she first met Furlock and realized that he's her son, however, she quickly and without hesitation accepted her role as a mother, despite not quite knowing what that entails. At first she had a lot to learn, but she was determined to learn everything she needed to know to take care of her little boy. She had to learn what and how to feed him, how to check and change his diapers, and even what kind of diapers and other supplies to get him, as though she were a new mother again. But, despite the challenges, it was all worth it if it meant she could be a proper mother for her little boy.

Due to spending so much time alone, she's still adapting to having Furlock around her. His habit of holding her tail and following her around in particular tends to put her off a bit. Sometimes when she's busy or off on an assignment, she'll let her ship's AI and it's machines watch Furlock for her. The AI has a habit of teasing the poor wolf, especially about him still being in diapers at his age. Asena doesn't mind this, even finding it a bit humorous, knowing that despite the teasing Furlock was in safe hands.

Like Wolf, she loves Furlock with all her heart, but also like Wolf, she isn't the type of parent to be overly affectionate and spoil her child. In that same vein, she doesn't mind it when Furlock gets into a bit of trouble and won't immediately rush to his rescue all the time. When he's truly in over his head and in danger, however, she'll dive in headfirst to rescue her boy. When spending time with him, she adores his passion for his hobbies and interests. She'll actively engage him when he goes on a childish rant about a video game he plays or a cartoon he watches, enthusiastically joining in the conversation with the same energy Furlock gives off.

Asena is still new to being a mother, especially to a son like Furlock who's still in diapers. But her love and her passion for her son drive her to be the best mother she can be for him. She may still have a lot to learn but she's more than up to the task. She's dealt with black marketeers, smugglers, tavern brawlers, and all sorts of other challenges during her time as a mercenary, and even through it's a different sort of challenge, she won't shy away from the perils of motherhood.
