Nice take on the pre-performance butterflies - The emotional roller coaster between the fear of rejection and the thrill of acceptance. I liked the comment on the "world outside the walls"... It gave that still silence such a dramatic presence.

Thanks, that was one of those things that just came out as I was writing. One of those "Oh, yeah and add this phrase" that only come along every so often but when they do they seem to add so much to the piece.

Interesting. Lot of beautifully arranged sentences you have there. The story is very able to catch that one moment, one feeling, into words. Very well written, I have to say. Great little piece.

Good description, and it was the small things too that really stood out. The fluttering heart seeking freedom, the desert parched throat, the wave of prickles; good stuff.

I liked it as well. I think it was especially effective because we never know exactly what sort of performance she is going to make. Singer? Dancer? Nude Yoga Gymnast? It can apply to anything. Well-structured and clear. I enjoyed it.
