Heh, me too! I'm even working on a History Honours dissertation at the moment; that is to say, I'm procrastinating whilst looking at ancient Roman Furry porn (turns out all that graffiti in Pompei was the world's first incarnation of FurAffinity).
I just say "I'm a student of history", or "I'm a learned gentlemen" or "Stop making fun of my degree!".

;) You should be in academia, it's a fantastic excuse to avoid entering the real world whilst not looking like a slacker! I write stories as well, but I'm infinitely too embarrassed to ever admit it in front of other people, so my situation ends up like this: http://oglaf.com/gifted/ .
