This is an idea I've had in my head for a long time, and
RalenFox very kindly sponsored me to bring it to life.
I thought I would post the WIP sketch, open for critique, to see if you all spot any errors, perspective awkwardness, or other things I might have just missed somehow. This is an 11"x14" piece on illustration board, and it will be painted with acrylics.
So this is like, a fantasy room/studio for my snowserval character. Of course it has to be underwater XD, so there are large curved windows looking out at a rather populated sea view featuring a whale shark, stingray, pufferfish, some butterflyfish, and some schooling fish.
The table/chair in the foreground are a kotatsu and zaisu. We just got one (the kotatsu) for our home, so I am pretty excited about it. They are very cozy ^.^.
Anyway, open for constructive critiques! Thanks very much =D

This looks SUPER awesome!
Only critiques is it looks like some lines appear to move through when not transparent. See the fish behind the brush on the bookshelf. That being said this is a WIP so I assume those will be cleaned up. But all the detail is great. And it's just the right amount to have stuff going on everywhere but not too busy! I look forward to the final result!

Oh yes. Still an early-access game and in-development... but a really unique concept, and very satisfying for that aquatic explorer's itch.

It's a single-player survival/adventure/exploration game, with you playing as the lone survivor of a spaceship that crashes on an alien oceanic world.

I drew the hand holding the book from memory, so a referenced one would be an improvement - I've revisited the hand and book with reference and I think it looks more natural now. Thank you!..
As to the odd mix of species, hmm, it doesn't bother me too much since it is a fantasy setting. I also referenced some underwater restaurants and hotels for inspiration of what sorts of fish can be seen (though the puffer is just because I love them) I am kind of thinking that the location is on the very edge of a reef.

You are by far one of the most skilled artists out there. I am sure you know that, the more it is positive, that you are nothing like cocky and keep a critical eye on your work to produce the best possible. You art is a joy to look at.
My only "critique" (if you could call it so), is that I'd wish you would sometimes put out pictures in 16:9 widescreen or even ultra widescreen. Since it would be a joy having one of your epic pieces with astounding scenery as a computer background. Sure I could cut your existing pictures to the fitting measurements, but it doesn't look very nice, when the ratio is a whole different one than the idea the artist had.

I would like to do more widescreen format pieces - not only do they make good desktop backgrounds, but the aspect ratio can be more dramatic and cinematic. My big hangup as far as artwork of that ratio goes, is the logistics of making prints. I would end up with drastically letterboxed prints. In the past I've done oversized prints of works like that, and then trimmed the excess, but transport and display at conventions was somewhat problematic.
I am sure you know your business best. I can only express my idea, since recently I moved through a very modern hospital, which had astounding top class widescreen photography as a shiny plastic print on their walls. Phsiycal pictures can not look any better than this. And having something like this from you in a very wide print would make anyone's hallway very much fascinating. Like when you got such a thing new on your wall and you invite friends, I am sure all of them as entering the apartment would at least stop at that picture when entering the hallways for 3 minutes.
stunning, been seeing many wonder including myself, when you going to do something with your own character.
overall mood of work gives off very calm.
i have to say some parts of it is very busy. and i say thing because i didn't really look at the fish and whale shark till after a second look and looked at the information. Not saying its bad however, it gives over all look in to a home space that would otherwise be lacking with out all its information the illustration shows.
only question i have is. Is that stingray smiling?
fully enjoy the work.

Thanks very much!
That is interesting about being more drawn to what is in the room, than what is outside - there is a lot to look at, and I do like doing pieces like that where maybe not everything is noticed on the first pass.
I did give the stingray a smile. I like their funny little mouths.. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_0fKCff00q.....e+stingray.jpg
