Anyone know what these cut outs are for? .. i was scratching my head and maybe thought to increase the accuracy of the shell being fired somehow?

I think they're mostly for deflecting the gasses to reduce the amount of recoil. 'Muzzle brake' I think is what they usually call them.

*wagwags* i didn't think of that .. some guy next to me muttered that he thought it could be a silencer until one of the technicians working on a nearby tank burst into laughter... :P

There for flash surpression, So your not as easily seen when you fire the gun.
