Many don't know that he's a great artist, too. Prior to Sesame Street, Spinney played Mr. Lion on the Boston version of Bozo's Big Top, where he would drawn cartoons out of the names of kids in the audience (something I learned when I visited the Clown Hall of Fame in Baraboo, WI) :0)
