I adore this comic, it's just incredibly endearing in its simplicity.
You can force unusually proportioned submissions through the queue by going into "edit" and resubmitting the image, it won't suffer any resizing or jpeg artifacts. As you can see here, artdevnull managed for sneak through some 5600 vertical pixels.
