It was Friday, somewhere around two o’clock. The day was just a regular, clear one. It was just about starting to feel like the afternoon that should have already dawned about now. An influx of high and middle school children flooded the streets, ready to go home again and enjoy the weekend. Conversely, there was also a convenient large presence of adolescent students and adults, primarily to be found at the malls and bars in the city. It wasn’t an unusual sight, per se, given the fact that this was a medium-sized area whose populace was jovially extroverted. There were a few skyscrapers here and there downtown, and the outskirts were mostly apartment buildings.
Among many of the city’s diverse residents, Justin, a red anthro cardinal, was heading back home after his last school day of the week. He ambled along the sidewalk, eagerly contemplating how he’d spend the weekend. On his way home, he passed a couple of small restaurants, crossed a busy crossroad and strolled alongside the city’s iconic shopping mall. This was all before he had to pass through a section which wasn’t as sophisticated as the rest, but needless to say it wasn’t completely neglected either. Justin stood before a neighborhood of small, yardless terrace homes lined along a narrow road on both sides. He had ventured into this area many times, so there weren’t any uneasy feelings for him to be had. He ambled as usual along the sidewalk and continued his way home. Everything went fine and dandy, until after five minutes of traversing the streets of this middle-class neighborhood, something unusual caught the anthro bird’s eye.
To Justin’s right hand side, in an alley which leaded to the backyards of the housing block, there was a large heap of trash: a myriad of cardboard boxes, several stained rugs, and a few empty bottles and packages - all piled up. Affixed to some of the bottles and packages were labels of well-known brands and franchise stores, while others had their recognition marks completely torn of. And another noteworthy item was that two of the bottles had their cap missing. However, this was nowhere close to the strange thing that Justin found strange. Among the collection of household leftovers was a perfectly undisturbed bottle of Old Spice. The inquisitive being that Justin was, he immediately stopped in his tracks to take a closer look. Surely someone wouldn’t discard a product in pristine condition like that.
The anthro cardinal was standing in front of the boxes and bottles, and quickly turned his head in every conceivable direction from which anyone could be watching. Great - the coast happened to be clear. It was quite the serendipitous location; while downtown was heaving en masse with folks, there was hardly a soul to be encountered in the suburbs. With nobody being at the premises to think of Justin as an impoverished trash rummager, the bird picked up the perfectly fine looking bottle. He turned it over to look at the back, which was in the same clean condition as the front. With his curiosity piqued, he sprayed a bit of the bottle’s contents into the air and took a whiff. It didn’t smell at all like ordinary Old Spice, but nonetheless, the scent was very nice. It was a very strong, sweet odor, reminiscent of milk chocolate with a dash of cream soda.
Even though the liquid in the bottle seemed completely alien, it did appeal to Justin enough to where he decided to put a few sprays on himself. He thought it would leave quite the impression onto the folks around him. They’d be wondering where such a product would be sold!
After Justin covered every inch of his skin and feathers with puffs of the scent, he was ready again to head home. He took the bottle with him, because such extraordinary stuff would surely prove to be valuable in some way. However, just when he was about to take a turn into another suburb, he felt paralyzed all over. Justin stopped dead in his tracks and was forced to sit down against the façade of a nearby house. Just as he sat himself down, the sense of paralysis grew stronger. Justin grabbed hus gut, trying to quell the sensation, but to no avail. Again, the feeling strengthened, and now Justin noticed that his odd pains weren’t the only things that were growing. The red cardinal saw how he was beginning to get taller and taller, how he was pushing the shrinking ground away from him, and how the house to his side was also diminishing in size below him. Gradually, as Justin grew more and more, his paralytic experience disappeared. Soon enough, he was already roughly thirty meters in height. The heels from his bird feet crashed down the rows of houses behind him while still growing. His direct line of sight started to become more in line with the city skyline, with Justin being able to see the skyscrapers and condominiums in the near distance- a distance that was quickly closing. A mere minute later, the anthro bird was even bigger, now standing at an astonishing fifty meters. His left foot was covering half the neighborhood in the form of a colossal bird foot standing in a pile of rubble. He looked around him, and noticed how the tall structures from downtown had become even tinier from his perspective!
A few more short meters were added to his height over a long period of time, and then the growth session came to a halt. Justin felt a little afraid to act, but he quickly grew accustomed to his new height and size. He started to feel empowered and mighty being this much larger that literally everyone else. Being bigger than fifty meters in a city- the things one could do that would otherwise be impossible. Aroused by the new, current possibilities, Justin lifted his foot out of the pile of debris that used to be the latter block of the houses he passed by. Upon doing so, the remaining small bits of rubble were dusted off like sand. The giant bird took his first steps back towards the main street, trampling the remaining terrace homes in the process with a tremendous rumble. At this point, the local population had already taken a sufficient notice of the giant red avian in the middle of their city. Justin took another step, this time right onto the middle of the main road. Street lights bent down underneath the giant bird foot and several parked cars were crushed as well. Justin smiled, as he was thoroughly enjoying the immense, unrestrained power he had. And he was only getting started.
The gargantuan anthro bird walked back down the streets that he initially walked down when he was heading home- the only stark difference being his size. The people in the streets who noticed his enormous form ran to safety upon sight, while the unaware person that didn’t look back found themselves pancaked underneath a giant bird foot. Justin simply kept walking until the end of the street, damaging vehicles and infrastructure in the process, and more importantly to him, flattening all the folk he managed during his giant stroll. Once he reached the end of the street, the bird took a few more steps towards the mall he passed by earlier, and managed to stomp a large crowd of people at once. He could feel the flattened micros piling up underneath his soles, and sticking to them like small little sheets of gelatin. In his wake, all the way back to where he grow was the trail of giant footprints he left behind, and, as they progressed in accordance with his rampage, had more and more little individual indents of the tiny people stuck to his soles.
But it seems the stompage wasn’t entirely met with panic. On the side of the street that Justin was just about to stomp through stood a brown dragon, jumping up and down and waving his arms about. It’s clear that he wanted something, as he occasionally shouted an inaudible slew of words towards Justin. Despite not being able to hear what the dragon was saying, Justin turned his head towards him and made an attempt to understand him. As soon as he saw the dragon pointing to his giant feet, he got the message. Realizing that this must be one of those micros that loves being underneath feet and paws, he slowly lifted his foot up above the dragon. A large shadow overtook the dragon, who was holding up his thumbs, and Justin gently stomped him. Afterwards, the rampage continued. The macroscopic avian stomped his way through another street, and this time, while having one of his huge feet firmly grounded onto a small group of people, he squatted, and dragged his hand across forty meters worth of street length. All the people that he picked up were held in a firm grasp above him, before Justin opened his mouth and swallowed the entire group. He cocked his head backwards and swallowed, rubbing his stomach afterwards and then continued his stomping spree. He felt he could use a nice, light snack after such a quickly exhausting walk.
And so it went on, until the day finally ended. Justin stayed the size he was for the time being, and set forth his way to the next city, stomping through the outer landscape with an abundance of micros stuck to his feet.
