I've been working on a build for a while now on Second Life. While working on a section, I was missing one or two things before moving onto another section, and I wanted to correct it before I moved on.
I took some time out to make that thing (a submission for later) because I couldn't find a decent on on the SL marketplace. Well I did find one, but it was far too expensive, so I figured I'd just make my own.
I needed to start making more stuff and get back into practice anyway.
After I noticed it was taking too long, I had a sudden idea about the necklace I wear offline. I don't really like or wear a lot of jewelry, but I do have a few exceptions.
Those usually deal with space, certain designs, nature, or some Egyptian stuff. I thought about trying to recreate it somewhat, then adding on my idea.
The Moon and Earth that you see are very similar to my actual necklace. The picture of the Earth is different, and the Moon has a different design to it. I was going to use swirls or circles, but came up with something else.
I decided to use some kind of plant, but couldn't decide on which one. I first thought a flower would work. Then a flower and grass. Then a tree and grass. I then thought of something called a Lunar flower.
I looked it up and kept getting results for something called a "Hylocereus" or night blooming flower. They are flowers that grow alongside dragonfruit, which is a type of cactus fruit.
After modeling the flowers, even though they could be more accurate, I modeled a couple of the cactus leaves. I wanted to apply a bump map to both to give them more detail, but couldn't seem to get it right.
I dislike having to walk away from things just because I couldn't get it right after a little while. But I had to move on, and this build started to take too long. You could really only see the detail close up anyway, so it's fine.
The picture at the top is supposed to be the edge of the sun. I maybe should have used a different picture. I had to hide the glass for it because I kept getting weird rendering issues, and I couldn't take more time on it.
What really took a lot of time was me trying to figure out what kind of design to use for the moon, and then trying to learn chain physics. I couldn't get the chain physics right. The chains kept breaking and flying off.
I made a clasp and many more chains, most of which are hidden because they are off screen. I just tilted the model and rendered as is. This was supposed to be a quick model that only took a couple of hours.
I have instead been working on this for almost 3 weeks. Too long. So up to FA it goes.
As usual, please don't steal, edit, copy, etc.
If you want something, just ask. I don't mind zooming in to certain parts and rendering those areas if you want a close up.

Thank you
Being that I've done chain maille before, I could probably make the chains.
They are simple circles. I'd just have to find a way to seal the loops.
Counting them, there are 182 small brass rings, 3 big brass rings, and 3 elongated silver rings.
And a brass clasp. I know the clasp can be purchased separately. Most of the chains probably could as well.
I would have to make the sun beams / brass pillars, the moon, the moon design, and the neck sun design myself.
As well as the glass / resin to protect the image in the back of them.
Probably the hardest and most tedious thing to make would be the moon design. That would be something I'd have to carve and polish.
If I can't find the chains, and I'm sure I could, then the chains would probably be the most tedious thing.
The pillars and sun backing may not be as hard as I'm thinking.
I could probably actually do this one day. Though this was just a random thought to a necklace I already own.
As for wearing it regularly, I have a more original, more preferred design. I'll probably make that soon.

I was having a pacing glance at your page to see if anything new and saw this. For a moment I swore it was real jewelry, then realized it's 3D art, mind totally blown. Yes it looks that real. I could ooze about everything with the design that I like, but eh. What I will say is, I find it slightly odd the moon is so large compared to Earth. This isn't something you alone do (in art form) I notice this common theme/notion of having an enlarged crescent moon being larger than Earth. Just saying the science in me says.....
Actually let me just put this up in the air as an idea:
Make the Earth a Crescent shape, the Moon a spherical shape, the Sun........like a giant ring, but not a normal ring, like the very ring itself is the outline of flames going in a complete circle. Hell if I could use 3D software worth a damn I'd try the design myself but obviously.
It's just an idea, either way fantastic job.
