I'm currently operating off the theory that the Chupa are artificial organisms created for militaristic purposes by humans or a human like species my evidence is thus:
In chapter 8 page 8 We get a glimpse of Chupa with human esq hands, which is either a genetic anomaly or possibly a human pretending to be a chupa
In the Lore section of the chupa Revolution page the creation story features a falling meteor that was eaten by a being named Sirica who then gave birth to the Chupa's; Firstly this could be a reference to artificial insemination or cross breading which is used to create hybrids in reality (Mules, Ligars ect) It also ties back to this page (Chapter 8 page 21) In which Church and and Mura are inside what appears to be an abandoned lab or fallen spaceship that has sunken to the bottom of a lake.
The chupa seem very genetically unstable also listed on the cupa revolution site with new species popping up every few years, possibly as a means of adaptation?
typed out it's not as strong as it was in my head XD
i'm curious to see how far off base i am going forward, this is mostly just a gut feeling on my part. Am i even in the ball park?
