This is what I have been working on for 2 weeks. This does not include the switching system and audio board that all this crap connects to.
Top to bottom
Marti STL Left channel (transmitter link to tower)
Marti STL Right channel
Leerfield sports/news receiver
the hated XDS receiver that brings in news, the rock station and the country station
Sage EAS This is what screams at you "This is a test of the emergency broadcast system Had this been real you should put your head between your legs and kiss your ass goodbye"
2 weather radios.
Outdated starguide receiver which works better than that damn XDS
Relay controller for the weather radios.
Orban 8100 Optimod
Marti STL for the rock station.

Im having to wire it all.
This is not the transmitter. The STLS transmit to the transmitter which is about the size of 2 refrigerators side by side, require 3 phase power and has tubes the size of basketballs. Its out in the middle of a pasture somewhere. We can not put it anywhere near anything because the RF radiation.

oh no man, im not reffering to the TX...i know about that...i'm florida, and bout 30min outside my mother in law raised arabians and they guy next to her had a cattle bussiness and in his giant pasture he had the TX of a country station, that if you didn't put a filter on your phoneline, prevented you from calling ANYONE or ANYTHING becasue the signal came in so damn good on the phone.....so yeah, i know bout them bad boys...i was reffering to the toys in the rack! And do you mean wiring it for power? or simply connecting the components together? Becasue if it's the latter, then i have to ask which monkey school those radio station people attended!? Becaue they teach you how to hookup a board and components and crap. I mean if you know the terminology that's taught and used in the industry, then should have been able to do it too! and don't get me wrong, i'm not saying you don't deserve the job, but in my mind, stupid jobs like these call for stupid pricing!
The audio, control and power. Power is easy. Audio is 9 pin connectors (like a serial connector) and is balanced stereo 1 L+ 2 L- 3 GND 5 R+ 9 R-)There are 4 of these as we have 4 audio feeds Then there is the relays 2 37 pin connectors for relays. 16 relays so thats 32 connections 16 of each have to be bonded together for a common ground I am using a 12 pair phone cable for that.
The leerfield is the same way. It has 5 relay closures or 10 pins I have to wire
That feeds the switcher which controls what audio feed goes to the automation system.
The automation system has 16 XLR conenctiors 4 in 4 out. 4 out go to the board.
1 in is the input from the switcher
2 is the record in from the switcher
3 is audition from the board
4 is the phone patch
This feeds out to the emergency radio relay so it can cut the signal and broadcast weather alerts that goes to the sage EAS so it can override the system (by fcc law it has to) if needed.. That goes to the orban optimod which basically balances your signal. No matter how loud or how soft a song, comercial, etc is the optimod boosts it or trims it so the sound is the same level. I would love to get the digital version for my home theater so I dont have to turn the volume down every time a comercial comes on.
That feeds out to the STLs which transmits to the transmitter.

ORBAN!! exactly! that's the one i wouldn't mind either... maybe one of the switchers too, have ideas on that one...but i would also need a board eventually to help trim things here and there....my old died like 5 yrs ago, and just haven't been able to get another yet.
as for the re-wiring....yup, it's caffiene time! I feel ya there....that's as bad as a punch board in a 4 story business office....shit....I hated telecom and having to trace everything and re-punch, re-wire, re-crimp because people were ef'ing idiots.

Keep in mind consumer grade equipment runs unbalanced (phono connectors) and professional grade stuff runs balanced. (XLR connectors)
What we are using for the switcher is a broadcast tools SS 8.2
Radio systems milenium series 12 deck control board Your best bet is a peavy mixer as it can can take balanced or unbalanced and does not care.
newmark MP102 cd players
Broadcast software Simian for the automation
Audio science 50xx audio card (this is 1500 dollars alone)
Orban optimod FM 8100A (about a 2000 dollar piece of equipment)
