Name: Joseph Camp
Location: Milford, CT
Date: 1750
Carver: William Lamson Jr.
One of a number of winged skulls carved in red sandstone in the old Milford yard which show a strong Lamson-family influence.
For comparison and contrast, here is a Lamson stone from the same yard:

And here's another knockoff by a different carver. Again, same yard:

The Lamson family company shipped stones as far north as Maine and as far south as South Carolina, and they shipped many stones to coastal Connecticut. So it's not like their style would have gone unnoticed among other carvers of the period.
Edit: It's been confirmed the carver was the son of a Lamson family member who moved to CT.

The business (which started in the 1670s) lasted about 3 generations, into the early 1800s.
The only continuously operating gravestone business still around from that period would be the Stevens shop in Rhode Island. Started in the early 1700s, still in business under a different family.
