Kaoru enjoying some pork bowl ramen. Very delicious!

A small square watercolour over pencil and fineliner, with a faber castell and prisma colour pencil finish. Hopefully a better picture to come. I haven't got round to scanning it!

Yeah. The only other characters I've made only got to the sketch phase. Mostly because drawing digitally really wears me out when its just personal. I'm so hard wired for commissions I forgot how to draw without being told what to draw T - T But... I'm working on it! I feel like I'm still discovering myself too. so like.... I can think of cool ideas but I have yet to have something that just really speaks to me, even just as ideas. That's why I sold my older ones too. Just didn't stick.
Like. species. how the heck. Usually my best stuff just pops into my mind out of the blue but like. I actually have to think really hard about it and thats when it's not fun anymore... I guess I've just been giving myself some time to really get to know the "me" that I want to share with everyone. bahhh. I ordered a new tablet that should be getting here Wednesday. I think it will really help me get out of my personal art block.

To be absolutely honest with you, I used to be like the until I turned things around to make my life a lot more exciting and work towards doing things for myself. It only really happened as I changed jobs IRlL. I used to be pretty dead set and hard wired to doing commissions for others and never doing any art for myself and if any, very little.
For some, finding yourself can take longer than others or happen in an instant. I believe it is something gradual but I have learnt to build upon a foundation, chopping and changing as I progress and become a better or just different as a person. I've had Kaoru from the beginning and she has changed so much over the years, little and often things being added or subtracted - Heck she even has a male genderbend now and it has made me want to make Kaoru more androgynous since that has always been my aesthetic and dream to be ( because in real life I'm this larged breasted curvey lady and I don't feel what I am haha - I want her to look how I FEEL inside and how my mind wants me to feel?!? idek).
Gosh what a glorious rant we are having. I'd say start small, build it up and chop and change it over time till its you; it could be this 'anonymous creature' or being you just put little bits of yourself into or things you want to be. The goal is to explore and enjoy yourself, carry around a little sketchbook, draw little things you like from games, the outdoors, things your generally into, childhood things if it was something you enjoyed. Don't think of it as a project, think of it as a fun little thing to do in your down time, when you can't sleep or you fancy an escape. Don't think of it as a chore and it'll start to happen in your head the way it should, I promise ;)
I can really see you have changed in yourself, there is a calmness there that used to be quite tense to me. I'm really glad to have you back :)
Dude, if you ever want to just waffle and vent, add me on something haha.

Yeah, see. I feel like right now I'm at the first steps of that since I only recently started even drawing again, regularly. I was maybe only drawing once every couple months for a while. It really set me back especially because I was no longer interested in the style I had developed as a teen. But even now when I'm doing very simple styles while I warm back up I'm seeing a lot of improvement between every piece and I'm finally having vivid visions before I fall asleep of art again. I'm not to keen on doing illustration itself. I much more prefer painting/chunky styles to work with. which.. I have little experience with since I didn't draw a whole lot for so long. I think once I get my style straight too, I'll be on the hot track to sorting it out. Right now my style is just bare basic- what I know I can do and very minimal at that to prevent burning myself out while I practice. Right now it's all about shaking the rust and getting used to drawing consistently. Once I succeed with that I'll be a lot more comfortable transitioning my style into something that suits me as an adult with more interest in abstract & subtle contrasts. Another thing that has always bothered me is that my digital sketches are nothing near as good of quality as my pencil work. I can never get the effortless flow and composition with a normal tablet as I would with just a pencil and paper, focusing very carefully on being gentle yet precise. Thankfully.... The stars have aligned and I was able to order a cintiq last night and I feel that will finally connect that missing link with my art. I'll have all the freedom and what I love about digital art and all the physical freedom of traditional art.
Haha anyways. I'm anxiously awaiting Wednesday and I've already had more creative ideas just thinking about the free range I will have.
And of course. You're a great conversationalist, I do really enjoy talking to you. I can be really shy or quiet spoken sometimes but once an attemptive convo has been reciprocated. I'm pretty quick to have a good conversation. Especially right now when I can barely focus and keep hoping the days past fast lol. Feel free to leave random conversations starters wherever you'd like. I don't really use social media anymore outside of FA so thats usually the best way to chat for me.
