I don't understand. Machines wouldn't just up and deactivate without good, probable cause. Even without spacial transition capability this shouldn't have happened. And gender bias? These terrestrial hybrid mammals clearly have a very poor understanding of male capability...
P.S. Sorry for my alter ego there ^^. I'm a synthetic persona online so I always take the machines side but so far the story has taken a very interesting turn. I don't understand how come the machines just ceased to live because machines don't just die o-o. Please keep explaining!

Gender "inequality" is present inany species and goes both ways. Peacocks for example, seahorses, and a number of other species (here on our little world) place the females in the dominant position. It's not really that I'm trying to make a statement here (that's Star Trek's job), more than anything I just wanted to have a little fun with gender roles here. In the lizard raccoon society, females posess a greater capacity as leaders and fighters, where the males are better suited to nurturing, in both the physical and mental realms. Not to say that a male couldn't (barring societal quams), only that the tribe's mythos places these genders in their places, much as our own 'enlightened' society does. The difference being, the lizard raccoons posess a greater understanding I their bodies, and capabilities, to them it only makes sense that the girls protect, while the males provide care.
Hurm, intriguing, thus, a nurturing female or highly skilled male could go into either role, but in both cases would have probable legends concerning them, given how rare it would be. It's also interesting they seem to have knowledge of Psionics: could it be inbred from their creators, or did it evolve as they abandoned technology and sought to live in harmony with the ecosphere? So many wonderful riddles to unwind.
