The bakery was a mess, there were baked goods scattered everywhere. The tables had been overturned, one of the windows broken. Perhaps most ominously there were a series of jagged clawmarks in the wall, an inch deep. Whatever had made them was strong, and angry. Officer Wilde stepped forward carefully, trying not to make a sound or tip on any of the strewn products scattered across the floor.
Carrots had come here, he didn't know why, she'd said it was personal. Now her radio was silent. That didn't bode well. What had she been thinking?
There was a crunch underfoot... a police radio, smashed to fragments. As if in answer there was a harsh, guttural growl from the back room. Whatever had done this was there now. Every instinct in his body told him to run, but his partner might be there, might still be alive. He had to see if he could help, even at such great risk.
He slowly stepped forward, the low, ominous growling was getting louder as he approached, its source still unseen. The lights were either off or broken and he couldn't risk finding out. He opted instead for his torch, shining the beam about what had once been an ordinary kitchen. Nothing but more mess, scattered pots and pans, splatters of dough and flour.
"Carrots? Carrots are you here..?"
A glint in the darkness, the gleam of feral eyes.Whirling around he shone the beam onto the large, unclothed creature huddled low to the floor, the smaller grey form kneeling over it, paw outstretched.
"Carrots? What on Earth...?"
"It's ok, I think I've got him Nick, can you call for backup?"
