So when I was at Waldenbooks today, I picked up this cute little guide to snakes for 3 bucks. It's actually really well put together; it lists a LOT of species of snakes, and many that I haven't even seen before... Including this one. When I read the description of this little bugger, I just had to make a character based on it.

Fifus is a burrowing asp. More specifically, a "fat burrowing asp." Burrowing asps are small snakes that life in Africa. Instead of having two frontally located retractable fangs like most venomous snakes, burrowing asps have fangs that they can stick SIDEWAYS out of the side of their mouths, pointed backwards. They use these fangs (very long fangs relative to their body size) to stab their prey and inject it with venom; they do not actually bite their prey to envenomate it. Fat burrowing asps in particular have a little spike on their tails that I found especially endearing, which is why I chose that species.

I plan on doodling this little guy a lot in the future.

Things that make Fifus himself: Reddish brown color with a light underbelly, big brown eyes, iris/pupil taking up almost the whole eye. HUGE fang sticking out either side of his mouth, or both out at once (usually he only has one out at a time). Glasses, spike on tip of tail.
