Another commission, this time of
abakan's character Abe the squirrel. A color version of a b&W photo (which was really tricky, let me tell you.) While this is a little washed-out due to the scanner, I did do the colors more muted than usual so it would look more historical. Watercolor.

It`s the mystery plane.
It is supposed to be a SAF Bf109G2 ( as Finnland only had G2s and G6s )
But it can`t be a G2 as the little glaslike triangle indicates an F, however the front armor glasframe indicates a later ( G14 and up ) canopy. Howver it lacks the MG breech bulges the G5 and later versions, up to the G14, had. It almost looks like a G10 ( which came, surprise, surprise AFTER the G14 ) with the later, streamlined breech covers, but the G10/K4 had the later Erla canopy. And this plane obviousely has a canopy which is fine up to early G6s
Will we ever know what version it is? Probably not ( and extremely confusing for the non109 geek ;)

I guess I should have specified *color* reference for the aircraft. I'm building a new RC Me-109G and have to start thinking about a color scheme.
It's interesting about all the little details regarding the aircraft in the photo. Maybe it's had some groundcrew-made modifications? I know a lot of that went on out in the field during the war.

For real ME 109 fun - Put them in Israeli airforce colours from 1948!
Avia S-199 - basically Czech-Built ME109G's re-engined with Jumo 211F engines -
with star of David on the wings!
(Ref the book 'Spitfires over Israel"!)

After flying these, ex spitfire pilots flying for Israel suddenly knew why the Nazis had lost the war. Messerschmitts were a real shock after Spits! (an the horrid torque of the JU 211 engine sure didn't help!).
