-Day 32 in The Zone-
"After venturing the Agroprom Underground in an unsuccessful late night search for the illusive Moonlight artefact, on my return to base I happened across this peculiar object, found nestled amid a Springboard anomaly field. Initial examinations of this particular artefact have revealed the following properties:
Object size – thirty-five (35) centimetres long by eleven (11) centimetres wide by three-point-two (3.2) centimetres deep… Approximately.
Object weight – two-point-four (2.4) kilograms.
Object radiation – zero-point-forty-six (0.46) millisieverts per hour on average… A remarkably low level of radiation for an object of this nature.
Object materials – The artefact appears to be comprised of a substance that feels very similar in nature to granite… However preliminary analysis identified the main body material to be significantly tougher than granite, most likely shaped by the naturally intense gravitational heat and pressure of the Springboard anomalies it was born in. The metallic compounds adorning the body of the artefact would appear to be tougher still, rivalling that of tungsten. Initial observations did not yield any additional properties of this compound… Until placed near a powerful source of light, such as a fireplace. The light produced by the source appears to pass through the compounds, diffracting and creating a beautiful light play, particularly in the higher regions of the visible light spectrum.
Object effects - When handling this artefact, or indeed quietly studying its nature by a fireplace at night… It creates a sense of mental resolve in me. I feel slower, more steady, more paced and more… At peace. I am unable to determine whether this is anomalous or natural reaction on my part given the circumstances, but I can’t help but feel more mentally at rest… More mentally stable too, as though were I to inadvertently venture into a Psi-field anomaly, this artefact would give me the mental balance I needed to remove myself from the field of its effects before it would break my mind. It… Truly is a stunning wonder of non-nature, the shape, the texture, the effects, the materials… It expresses to be the benevolent grace of a God, giving such a wonderful gift to this ever-changing world, and in this realm of death, horror, and misery… Great contentment awaits those with the desire, the stamina, and the power to endure the curses of The Zone, this Hell on earth that seeks a place to expand and to grow, to spread its influence and ruination in its wake… Yet, in some ways, it all seems worth it for those with the resolve to endure its cruel challenges and discover what it presents, that which can be found in no other place on this planet. I may have considered selling on this artefact for financial return but, after observing and analysing its nature… I might keep this one. It may become useful once again when I require an unfurling from all the nightmares that I encounter every day in this godforsaken place… I think I shall call it Stone Flower.
Final thoughts - I should sleep now, I sense The Zone will give me no respite until it removes me from its vastness, like a living body fighting a foreign germ. It surrounds me now, and the moment I set foot from the door of this haven tomorrow, I shall have to face up to its abominations again… I shall keep this artefact close by for the time being… Good night."

This is one of the best commission pieces yet that I've received of this character. Everything about the image is so well composed and atmospheric, it really embodies the environment of the zone in a simple yet very detailed scene of what happens outside of shooting at other stalkers, killing mutants or evading death from anomalies. The atmospheric lighting really works well to create a cozy and enclosed environment relatively safe from harm, one of the only havens available in such a place. The intricate level of details in the house itself is another thing altogether, every crack and strip of material emphasises the state of age and decay in the building, suggesting the place has been unkempt for many years and is now simply used as a place of refuge before moving on to parts unknown. I like how you've made clever use of the equipment in the scene as well, particularly the mercenary gas mask attached to the bag, very succinct and smart with the use of that. Of course the rifle is looking at home too, in a place once under rule of the soviet union. You've done a very good job of contrasting the inside and outside environments, most particularly by way of the warm glow of the fireplace to the sound track of Firelake, compared with the outside world which in itself looks beautiful, is dark and foreboding, filled with horrors. It really pushes the point home just how much of a sanctuary this house is as evidenced by the fact that the horrors of the zone lurk only right outside the window. The artefact is nicely detailed to, appearing very true to the in-game design, very nicely done with that. And lastly, the character, he looks nicely detailed with the way you've drawn his posture, his facial expression, suggesting he's taking the time to enjoy his pit stop before he has to move on the next day. The shading is excellent and impresses upon the warmth of the fireplace, and truth be told I wasn't expecting Neriph to look as good as he does in a leather jacket, very well done with that. He may also want to consider moving that cup of tea to a safer location, on a more stable surface and away from a source of radiation.
Lovely job with this picture and I hope to be able to commission you again at some point in the future.

Oh boy, I feel terrible for that guy trying to traverse the Zone! Getting boots to fit those big honking footpaws must be a nightmare, so either that or you're carefully tiptoeing around anything that could be a radioactive puddle or a caustic anomaly on the ground...
