More Neopets doodling. Hannah the usul, a tomb raider sort who inexplicably dresses like a barmaid.
The Neopets premise amuses me. In some parts of the site (including the pets you adopt), they are just animals, but in most places they are anthropomorphic. Do they just put on clothes and have a society during the day, like a job? Are they a slave race? Are they just imagining having a civilization while they sleep in a sunbeam on their owner's floor? Maybe it's like Toy Story and they have to quickly stash the clothing and play with a ball of string or chew cud when their owners show up. But some of the pets go on all fours all the time, and their neighbors don't seem to mind. Are they like nudist hippies?

So it would seem, but in some of the written stories they're treated like regular pets by their owners, and can't talk to them, etc.
It got even more complicated in the game I worked on, where the PetPets (Neopets' pets) had a little society in a pocket universe.

I don't know any stories written by the staff that indicate that pets don't talk to people
the NT has some stories like that by players but.. not by staff lol idk got examples?
dude, I don't even know why they are making these "petpet" societies anyway. It seems like they will soon create a petpetpet society, and eventually invent petpetpetPETS and THEIR society, it's getting out of hand lol

No examples, it was a long time ago. I'd find some new ones, but I'm overcome by not caring very much. =)
You're right though, the stories I read were probably by users. Still, you'd think if they wanted to be consistent they'd screen those for content. There isn't really a 'canon' for the world, which I guess is probably intentional-- it's less work for the staff, and the users can do whatever they want.
