Shaggy's full name is Shaggymane Brock. Both he and his mate Puffball were named after species of edible fungi. This was at least 10 years before I saw the infamous Badger badger badger badger MUSH-ROOM! MUSH-ROOM! film.

Ah, I was wondering when someone would inquire about them!
Shaggymane is designed like a European badger, the type familiar to anyone living in Great Britain. To make them easy to tell apart, I gave Puffball the markings of a North American badger.
Who says N.A. badgers can't be Good Samaritans? I take it then, you have never heard of "Incident at Hawk's Hill," the story of how a North American she-badger adopted a six-year-old human boy who had gotten lost in the woods. The book has been called "the fictionalized account of an incident that actually occurred near Winnipeg about 1870."

Actually, I didn't know about the Incident at Hawk's Hill book!
I may be a molecular virologist iRL, but I started out a naturalist and amateur ornithologist (i.e. birder), that did alot of volunteer scientific survey work. I've always loved studying animal habits and behavior, and you just taught me something new about badgers. Thank you! :)
