Character created by me and
Maneframe! It took a bit of time and effort on their part, but she is absolutely spectacular!
The girl who lacked the markings of her ilk
Had hues of greatness coming of her milk
Uvonna was born into the world of great color. Around her were fuschia flowers, baby blue butterflies, and golden giraffes. An endless array of colors spoke to her in her first language - sight.
The world, however, did not bestow its rainbow on her. When born, all around her saw her lack of markings; her lack of identity as a giraffe. She was a ghost. A ghost, however, who did not recognize her own isolation and instead saw the wonderful hues of everything else! And that's how she would grow up.
As she proceeded through life and learned of her displacement with her peers, Uvonna began to feel the social pressures isolating her where she didn't understand, cutting her off from her society of peers if only by accident. But she always had the hues within her heart. Hours of free time enabled her to search the prairies for colors. A flower could provide a magenta, a mineral could be ground into a yellow, a shell could be crushed into a cyan. After months of lonesome experimenting, she was able to make her own ink and begin creating her own markings! But the colors were off, and it was obvious that her inexperienced attempt to fit in would isolate her further.
But this isolation gave her more time to practice. Years of doing nigh else but painting allowed her to create whatever she saw fit with the haphazard materials that she had gathered.
On her 18th birthday, Uvonna had set out to a remote location. She wanted to paint the summer sunrise of her coming of age. Though she had gotten close to finalizing the picture, her palette was emptying of her hard-made pigments, particularly her reds. No! She couldn't run out of red! The red is critical to her picture, the essence of the sunrise. Flustered, Uvonna noticed that, though they didn't hurt, her nipples seemed to be bleeding, the blood soaking her fur down to her thighs. Apparently, she must have cut herself on both nipples while dragging the canvas and materials out to the location or... something... As she attempted to use some extra cloth to stop the wounds, she noticed the blood didn't have the telltale smell of iron. A quick taste told her that it was actually milk. After the panic and confusion settled, she calmed down and realized she could use her milk as paint as well! So she squirted a bit of milk onto her pallette, put her brush to it, and finished her masterpiece.
Later, she'd discover that she could, with great practice, control the colors that she creates through great focus on which color she wished, and change it at a moment's notice.
Though she'd often give herself the markings that her kind had, she usually wear herself with pride, and creates and endless number of new coats for herself. She knows she looks better than them.
