As someone who played it and dug into the grimoire cards (little info cards with lore in them) I can tell ya it has a very fainting mix of sci-fixing, fantasy and eldritch horror.
Fun fact, the reason Destiny ha's so much refrences to fantasy is because in its most earliest incarnation it was meant to be a pure breed fantasy game, knights, mage, monsters, the whole 9 yards, then it slowly "mutated" into the sci/fantasy hybrid it is today.

sounds like a plan. just keep it reasonable. as in, don't add an element because it's there, or something. :) it happens often enough that sci-fi has fantasy elements that amke you wonder, why? and vice versa. :)
