Maybe I should have dusted that X-15. It should be black, not charcoal grey.
While the Pogo plane was never any good for landing vertically, with regular undercarriage you have to wonder what sort of regular fighter it might have made, with that huge turboprop and counter-rotating propellors! (They counter-rotate on the model too.)

The Pogo was supposedly a pretty good flier, with that big prop wash going over the wings, and dreadfully short moment. Good flier for a fighter that is. The Services and everyone were very 'speed' obsessive back then, and if it didn't go supersonic, it wasn't worth having.
Aside from the landing difficulty, the other issue was the gearbox for the YT-40 engine liked to turn itself into expensive glitter when subjected to the 7,000shp or so the paired turboshafts put out.
I doodled up a two-seater version awhile back, that was in a fictional world a misbegotten hand me down to the US Army, who flew it as an OAFV-1G FAC aircraft, with two of the tip pods housing 70mm smoke ( *cough *cough* key west accords) rockets.
I need to WHIF that with one of the Lindberg kits. I love all those giant overscale raised rivets.
