This is the original flat line-art from page 4.10 of Dark Lord Rising, since at least one person has expressed interest in seeing how it differs from the published version.

Merlin wasn't sure if she was going to be able to finish it in time so she sent me the flat colours yesterday. I spotted a number of things, some of which could potentially cause trouble for the next page and asked her for any thoughts.
One of these was the subject of returning the stolen rings, which doesn't work if they've already driven away, as depicted in this comic. The other was that the rings all looked the same.
I figured that we could probably do something like having the Black Rider slam on the brakes or pull a U-turn on the next page, and maybe add a couple of stones onto the rings. I ended up adding the gemstones myself and changing the colour of some of the rings to platinum or silver to give more variety.
When I actually got the shaded artwork, Merlin had redrawn the background for panel 3 and moved it into a car-park complete with an extra red car - in the original version you can see that the Black Minibus is driving away from the auction house. Not expecting this, I didn't actually realise until I noticed some ghost bushes in the final panel where Merlin had replaced the greenery with sky but forgot to update the tint layer and asked her about it.
Other changes I made included darkening the interior of the car since, as you can see, the characters inside were originally full brightness even though the windows are tinted as befits a spec-ops vehicle. In true DMFA style the eyes in the final version are at full brightness since Furre eyes are apparently more reflective than humans.
I also darkened the tint on the rear windows, and added an extra layer to darken it even further for the overlapping windows.
Some extra shiny was added to the Black Rider's motorcycle gear.
Dialogue-wise I was persuaded to add an extra speech bubble in panel 3. My original plan was to have the comment about Keller having stolen rings from gloved people in the blurb at the bottom of the page, but Sofox came up with a better line so I incorporated the lampshading dialogue into the comic itself.
I also fixed up a lot of white spots which tend to appear in Merlin's colouring system, especially in the corners where lines converge. Something which I also did which can't be seen here is that the red car in panel 3 was originally very angular, apparently a result of my snarky comment about Merlin not using rulers while trying to fix some wonky walls in Epsilon.
I decided to leave the Black Minibus angular to make it look more sinister.
