Put yourself in the shoes of Lismorius for a second. You've excelled at necromancy ever since you tried your hand at magic, but the very thought of resurrecting a mortal and binding them to your will is just too revolting to bear. The dead rest in peace, what sick bastard would disturb them? So you've tried and tried, but neither alchemy nor mysticism handle well in your hands. You're frankly, a one trick pony and that one trick is the one you despise the most.
Well, Lismorius was no overemotional pussymage. There had to be some way of using necromancy in a non-psychopathic manner, and by the stars, he was going to find it!
Plantalegion was his first succesful experiment. Carefully growing a tree into a random skeleton over the course of three years, he then killed and promptly resurrected the tree as his minion. The result was a loyal, obedient slave, with the spirit of a tree - the skeleton's soul remained completely undisturbed.
He wanders around Lismorius's lair, scaring off would-be trespassers, keeping the lonely mage company during the long winter evenings. He occasionally grows saplings, which he plants around the forest, a display that Lismorius deems utterly adorable.
Some would say Planty's always smiling, slightly. No surprise really, it's hella rad for a tree to get to walk around.
