In my Plight world, these dangerous creatures are called Graiths. An Apex predator that can pounce upon other ground predators and prey with Eagle like strikes. Lives in the warmer climates of it's home world, near the equator. Rather large and intelligent creature with some puzzle solving skills. Could give dragons a run for the size challenge. Gives my main characters a lot of trouble with it's ability to pounce an unaware Foxen into unconsciousness inside a heartbeat. Whom will be flown away to become a mid-day snack. Thankfully, the major colonies don't overlap their general roaming territories. So, conflicts are few. However, historians have dug up the bones of Graiths dated from a thousand years, prior. Climate changes are suspected to have reduced their overall localization.
