Oh! the only thing that's spray paint is the "halo"

I used this can of metallic gold spray paint, and sprayed it about the surface a lightly while painting, but then more heavily to make the halo. You can't tell in the scan, because metallic texture doesn't reproduce well (you need two eyes to really get the effect, not the scanner's one). In person, the image would glimmer here and there. amazing... i love the contrast of colours. i've started my collage piece- i took a bunch of pictures from magazines of 'old' looking maps, gel-mediumed them down and did a gree/blue thin layer over it... the green/blue layer has too much paintbrush-y texture, but other then that i'm really liking it. i think i'm going to paint a look overtop of it. =D thanks for the inspiration.

I love the little symbols in the halo and bright bright blue along the edges of her. Her little birds seem to really pop.

so i'm inspired to do some sort of bird crossover thing :D

This is probably my fav piece on all of FA if not the internet as a whole right now. I love how you can paint with such bright colours and still avoid hurting my eyes. I love the sharp shadows of the strand of hair on the shoulder, the necklace and the corner of the nose. The electric blue, the pinks, the yellows... oooh gosh, this makes me eyegasm so hard! Thank you for being utterly awesome

I love the texture and the edges your painted over collage gives, and that flash of red in her eyes is really nice. I bet its got a really nice iridescence in person. For some reason this kind of loosely reminds me of David Mack's Kabuki [Metamorphosis]

and yeah, i think it does shimmer much more than in the scan.
iridescent paint doesn't reproduce true, unfortunately.

I've always enjoyed how you incorporate basic shapes in your backgrounds, whether it be a solid shape or a frame for a scene, in order to enhance the detail of the foreground. It's always so masterfully done and so subtly executed!

this kind of thing helps with organizing a composition, and composition can do a lot for an image.
a good composition can almost carry unconsidered color, technique (and maybe poor contrast) by itself :D

Good note to make; being colorblind makes my color choices questionable as it is!

being color blind can also make your color choices -awesome- too :O

i was really nervous about it, so extra careful. it might make the image too precise really. it's easier to be
looser about work i'm not so emotionally invested in, y'know? more room for happy accidents while painting.

you get too involved in tiny details and parts of the piece look like they don't fit, etc.

The cool and warm sections splitting across the portrait is just stunning. It also looks like his skin is in high key, making him glow.

She's a she, but that's okay. the cropping and hair and so on make this vaguely androgynous :)

I can also see the breasts cleverly cropped out slightly too, so I can see where it begins.

Ahhhh. I love warm and cool contrasts...the blue outline around her shoulders and arms really catches my eye. I have yet to be comfortable with gouache, heh. This looks like it was uber fun to paint.
