Yeah, I thought about that when worked on this art. But when I made metal like a colour of my scales it looked too flashy and was not so pretty...
But i have added some parts with that color in my other work: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/26373587/ and it looks much better than all in one color )

Well, you can always try something in between. Your colors are rather flashy, so you could try reducing saturation or put the color over the white and play with opacity. Yellow rims are a nice touch, but I think it would be worth a try to expand it a little.
