A portrait of all four members of the Everett family. From left, Captain David Everett, Topaz Everett, Starr Everett, and Talwyn Master of Healing Lynn Everett. Both Topaz and Starr keep a copy of this photo with them at all times. It is assumed this was taken shortly before the Talwyn/Ashurian War began.

Very neat. Maybe I'm just forgetting something, which is possible, but I can't actually recall having seen any of the members of Topaz's family together in a picture before, so it's nice to see them all together. It's nice, too, to get to see the photo that both she and Starr carry with them, as it helps to make another little piece of their story that much more real, I think. They are quite a handsome family, too, and I really like how happy they all look together. It's kind of sad, in a way, knowing that there's so much trouble ahead for all of them, but knowing they have this memory to look back on does kind of help.
That, and I really enjoy getting to see any sort of family interactions in art. Maybe that's why so many of my own characters have such large families. It's nice to see siblings, or parents and children all together and happy like this.

I haven't, a part of which is my problem of having so many characters and moments I would love to illustrate. When I was working on the story "Effective Measures", I started describing the photo in the story and determined this was something I needed to have drawn. So far it's the only image of the entire Everett family and something I would imagine both kids would consider a prized possession, especially given they're displaced from their home. Plus I sort of wanted to have at least one moment of their family in a happy peaceful time. I really enjoy how this piece illustrates the strong relationship they all have, with Topaz being the cheery younger sister, Starr being the proud bigger brother and their parents just loving their kids. While some of their fates were sort of already determined as the story came together, I think it makes the story much more relatable, as events of the sort that occur in the story usually result in some consequences, both good and bad.
Family interactions are always nice to see, maybe because it's something everyone can relate to and emphasize with. Everyone has one, and it reminds us of those moments in our own lives. Plus, your characters have large families because BUNNIES.

I definitely need to get more art of my various family members together, too. I just realized it has bee something like two or three years since I got a picture Ciara and Deirdre together and I need to get art of Fiachra with all of her daughters at some point. Back to the photo, though, I agree that having this one happy moment together makes their story both more poignant and something that I think most people can relate to. I think that everyone has some kind of happy memories with friends or family that they can look back on to help with the rough times, and it helps to make the Everetts feel that much more real.
And yeah, the fact that so many of my characters are rabbits has kind helped in that regard. But my foxes aren't doing too badly, either. If they'd all survived their infancy, Ciara would have had four younger half-siblings instead of just one.

Oh yeah, for sure. :) No doubt they've had quite a few of them before the war, and will after, but especially to the Everett's family is extremely important. It's why when Topaz and Starr see each other after two years of not knowing if the other was dead, they're overjoyed. Before realizing they're hugging their sibling in front of the adults of course, because that's icky.
I sort of recall that she had more, and Brigit and she were the only ones left. I'm so bad, I need to read your work more...
