First sketch of 2017! One thing I want to try and do this year is hold back on less of my sketches, just post up stuff as I go as soon as I scan it in. And since I don't really have any reason not to...
It's a new batch of Pokemon from my roster!
This time around, I first decided to take another crack at Macho Jr, since I wasn't really satisfied with how I drew him last time. His torso is a bit thicker than I originally intended it to be, but his limbs are spot-on. Muscular but not so much, since he's(Far) weaker than his dad.
And then I finally got around to remodeling King Rexon! You've met him already, but as a brief refresher, he's a cocky, brash, vulgar asshole with a heart of gold. He along with Machoke and X-Naut act as the "Enforcers" of Ninetails' roster, being the three most powerful pokemon he owns. King prides himself on his power and brutality in battle. Although he tries(And fails) to hide it, he absolutely adores Ninetails. Beneath the bluster and ego, he's fully and painfully aware of the fact that he wouldn't be nearly as powerful as he is now without Ninetails' help. He sees Ninetails as a catalyst for explosive growth in everything he touches on top of being a great friend. He's protective over his trainer to the point that oftentimes it's HIM, not Machoke who's ready to knock heads on Ninetails' behalf first.
I really love how King turned out! One thing I didn't like about the last time I drew him is that he wasn't as stocky as I thought a Nidoking should be. He had overly-long legs and ended up looking overly-tall IMO. For this version, I went with a more Bowser-like body shape and it paid off beautifully. I also gave him new shin pads and a pair of Poison Point gauntlets. Really brought his look together.
Fun Fact: King knows a special combo move, Toxic Shock that he created himself. He first uses Toxic to coat his hands in poison and then goes in for a Power-Up Punch with an open palm uppercut to the face. If the hit lands, it inflicts poison AND has a chance to make the opponent flinch! Of course, this is by "Anime Rules," so it's less broken than it sounds. XP
